Transportation Department<br />
The Transportation Department is responsible for the efficient<br />
management or movement of people, vehicles, animals and goods in a<br />
safe, efficient, economical manner from place to place within <strong>Fingal</strong><br />
via the public road network system.<br />
The management of <strong>Fingal</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong>’s Transportation Department is in line with<br />
policy documents including the National Development Plan 2007-2013, DTO Strategy<br />
2000-2016, Transport 21, and current <strong>Fingal</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong> Development Plans and<br />
Strategies.<br />
The main pieces of enabling legislation are:<br />
• Roads Act 1993 - 2007<br />
• Road Traffic Acts 1961 to 2008<br />
• Local Government(Planning & Development) Act 2000 – 2007<br />
TRANSPORTATION PROCESS/RANGE OF SERVICES<br />
The Transportation Department provides a wide range of services for the <strong>County</strong> of<br />
<strong>Fingal</strong>, including the design and construction of new roads, the improvement,<br />
maintenance and lighting of existing roads, the implementation of traffic management<br />
measures and the operation of a road safety section and school warden service. The<br />
Transportation Department acts as an agent for the National Roads Authority (NRA) for<br />
the management of the National Road Network which includes the M1, M2 and M3<br />
motorways, in <strong>Fingal</strong>. The Department is also responsible for the taking in charge of<br />
roads, temporary and permanent closures of roads, the making of Bye-laws relating to<br />
roads and related areas (e.g. speed limits, parking places etc.).<br />
