Thank you for joining me on this very special occasion. Our first all-school auction in decades,
Perfecting the Art of Fun is an ambitious undertaking. It is also a marvelous opportunity
for all of us to show our support for this community. Every day our children come to school, they
grow and learn and enjoy life together, never truly realizing how lucky they are to be part of such
an extraordinary blend of students. But you, as parents, faculty and alumni/ae, do realize it. You
understand that this community hinges on financial aid and that is why you’re here with me.
Thank you for sharing my passion for economic diversity.
My deepest thanks to all who helped present Perfecting the Art of Fun to all of us. This
evening is the work of energetic and dedicated volunteers and staff who have given money,
auction items, time, creativity and passion to make this evening possible. Bid high and often; our
volunteers have put together quite a fabulous array of auction items for us. Friendly competition
for items is to be encouraged; feel good about outbidding a friend and remember every dollar you
spend tonight opens our doors a little wider!

Registration
Upon arriving, all bidders will be assigned a bid number, found on the back of their auction catalogue.
The numbers will ensure anonymity to all bidders, and also allow bidders to combine the charges for
multiple items upon departure. All bidders MUST use assigned bidding numbers.
The auction committee reserves the right to remove invalid bids, resolve disputes, or withdraw the
offering.
All sales are final. Every attempt has been made to provide the best description for each auction
item. Items purchased are accepted on an “as is” basis unless specified on the item or in the auction
booklet description. Friends’ Central School makes no warranties or guarantees with respect to any
of the items or services offered at the auction.
Specifications and limitations are different for various items, please be sure to read all details
carefully.
By his/her purchase, the buyer waives any claims for liability against Friends’ Central School.
Friends’ Central School is not held responsible for any personal injuries or damages that may result
from the use of property or services sold. In addition, any damage to the donor’s property shall be the
responsibility of the buyer.
Unless otherwise specified, trips and vacations require advance reservations and are subject
to availability. Restaurant certificates do not include gratuity, tax or alcoholic beverages unless
otherwise stated.
Check out & Redemption
During registration you will be asked to provide your Credit Card number at the registration table
when you pick up your auction booklet and bid number. This will enable us to set up a “Quick
Check Out” option for you to make paying for your items quick and convenient.
If you have purchased an item(s) in the Silent or Live Auction and you are ready to leave for the
evening, please report to the “Check Out” table. You may pay with cash, check, American Express,
Visa or MasterCard. No debit cards are accepted. Payment must be paid before the item(s) may be
claimed.
iRS & Charitable Contributions
The value of the purchased item(s) is/are indicated on the invoice. If you purchase an item and your
bid exceeds its retail value, the difference becomes a tax-deductible donation. Please keep your
receipt for tax purposes. To answer questions regarding the tax deductibility of your donation(s),
please rely upon the advice of your tax preparer.

Silent Auction
The silent auction will begin at 6:30 pm. Tables will close in ten-minute increments beginning at 8:15 pm.
Each silent auction item will be represented by a bid sheet showing the item number, description,
minimum opening bid, and minimum raise and with some having an option to “buy it now.” Once
someone bids on the “buy it now” price, the item will be SOLD.
Once the table has closed, table ushers will pull the bid sheets from the tables and give them to the
check out workers; at which time the winning bidders will be entered into the computer.
The highest bidder listed at the time the bid sheet is collected will become the owner of the item.
Winning bidders will be identified after dinner on a poster board located on the auction tables for
individuals to view.

Live Auction
Live Auction bidding will begin during dinner. Be sure to keep track of your auction booklet which
contains your bidder number. Pay close attention or you might miss something you just HAVE to have!
Good rule of thumb — bid early and bid high!
The live auction items can be paid for and collected during check out, along with silent auction items.
Invoices for live auctions items will also be provided at check out.
Grab Bags
This auction has something groovy for everyone! In addition to hundreds of fabulous auction items,
you can buy a Grab Bag during the Silent Auction. Priced at only $30 dollars, Grab Bags contain over
$100 worth of gift certificates and mystery items. SHH — here’s a hint, each Grab Bag is unique and
might contain a golden ticket! But, there are only 75 so be sure to visit the Grab Bag table as soon as
you get to the auction. When they are gone, they are GONE!
Check out
Check out stations are located in the Shimada Lobby
and will open after dinner. Upon payment at check
out, you will receive a copy of the invoice marked
“PAID.” It is at this time, you may return to the
table and an usher will assist you in claiming your
merchandise. If your item is represented by a
certificate you will receive it at check out.
