Bartolomeu Campos de Queirós<br />

spent his childhood in the Minas Gerais countryside,<br />

where he was born. He now lives and works in Belo<br />

Horizonte. He has written numerous children’s book<br />

and texts on art education. His first book, O peixe<br />

e o pássaro was published in 1974. He is recognized<br />

by his books written in a poetic prose of very high<br />

quality.<br />

He has won 10 awards as a writer in Brazil<br />

and abroad. In 2008, he was awarded with the<br />

Iberoamerican SM Prize for Children´s and Young<br />

Adult´s Literature for the title Tempo de voo (Flight<br />

time), published by Edições SM. And in 2009, he<br />

won the National Library Foundation Award – The<br />

Best Book for Children.<br />

With a degree in art education, he attended the<br />

Pedagogical Institute in Paris. As an educator, he has<br />

contributed to important projects for the Education<br />

Department in Minas Gerais and for the Education<br />

Ministry in Brazil. He participates at the National<br />

Reading Program – PROLER / Fundação Biblioteca<br />

Nacional, lecturing on children’s<br />

literature, education and reading.<br />

Some of his books have been<br />

translated and published abroad.
