Bicho de sete cabeças e outros seres fantásticos
Eucanaã Ferraz. Illustrations by André da Loba. Companhia
das Letrinhas. 63p. ISBN 9788574064000
Some fantastic creatures from mythology such as the phoenix
that rises from the ashes after death, others scary, such as the
mandrake, the dragon and zombie come to life in this book.
Although almost all the characters are frightening, the poet
transforms them to children with a good amount of sympathy.
The author’s poetic sensibility joined the technical audacity
of the young artist. The book illustrations are photographed
sculptures made especially for this book. Together, text and
image offer the young reader a pleasant reading.
Renowned writer was asked by his grandson to write
about the creatures that live in the farm of Cricket
family, ant, butterfly, snail ... Animals (bicho) that fly,
that walk, creep. Animals that are distracted wise and
playful. Who could imagine that one day the worm
would find a rusted nail and would imagine that it was a
fossil from one of its ancestors? The author describes the
relationship of his family with animals. He tells that his grandmother learned to embroider
with the spiders. The illustrations by award-winning illustrator and writer Angela Lago
enhance the text. She plays with the spelling of the words in order to bring the children
closer to the animals and books world.
