Revelation
Bible 101 is a lecture discussion format that will be continuing the Book of Revelations. The book of
Revelation is one of the most controversial books of the Bible. Biblical scholars have debated for centuries
regarding its meaning and interpretation. The apostle John wrote the book after he had been
banished to the island of Patmos. While on the island he received a vision which later became the book
of Revelation.
The Methodist Lectionary Readings
Christian Living’s classes are a combination of lecture and discussion covering the Lectionary readings
assigned for each Sunday of the church calendar. This includes reading from The Psalms,
these readings offering attendees a comprehensive view of the sermon subject. We read, discuss and
apply the subject matter to present day issues and often offer examples or personal testimony for
support.
From the Pastor’s Heart…
Today’s Message
It’s hard to believe that it is February and the trees are budding out. I’ve lived in Texas all of my life and
I don’t remember springtime coming this early. The naysayers say this is an indication of a harsh, hot and dry
summer. The local weather reporters also seem to be singing the same negative song.
Yesterday I was reading that the naysayers are also predicting a major “correction” to our rallying stock
market. The reasons cited were varied but all pointed to the world economy. In recent weeks I have noticed
several of these negative messengers offering discouragement in generous doses. The evening news does a good
job of discouraging and painting dark pictures of the world.
In recent weeks, my family has experienced just the opposite. We have been in emotional turmoil. Mom
was in the hospital for almost a week. While she was in the hospital my step-mother moved my father from one
nursing home to another, both located in Boerne. Dad suffers from Alzheimer’s and chronic back pain, yet rarely
complains. But the move was hard on him. That kind of radical change is not easy on someone with Alzheimer’s
or a dementia-related condition.
About the time his world was settling down, and just a few days after Mom returned to Granite Mesa, the
doctors told me to gather my family because they expected Mom to live only 48 hours. Thankfully Mom’s sister
was already en route from Amarillo and soon arrived. I contacted my brother and others came and we spent two
quality days with Mom laughing, telling stories, feeding her and watching her sleep. Throughout this time we
experienced the Body of Christ in such a powerful way. You ministered to us and loved us. You visited. You
brought food and offered accommodations for our family. The naysayers of the world would be speechless if the
world lived and functioned like the Body of Christ.
When we were weak, you were strong for us. When we were tired, you held us up. When I was overwhelmed,
you all helped me step back and take things one step at a time. To say merely “thank you” seems so
hollow and yet my words express the feelings deep within my heart. Thank you, church family and friends!
Ironically, Mom has rallied and perked up. Her sister has returned to Amarillo. I have returned to the
office and our incredible staff filled in the gaps in my absence. We are reminded that God’s love and power is
greater than any naysayer! God has a plan, no doubt. While we remain somewhat puzzled, our task is really quite
simple: we will continue to love Mom and make her comfortable until that time when our Lord chooses to carry
her home and release her from the illness that has invaded her body. Until that time, we trust and we wait on
God’s perfect timing. Thank you for being the church not only to my family, but more importantly to Mom. I am
thankful for the love and friendship we share.
Blessings,
Ellen
By now I hope you have had the opportunity to meet our new Children’s Director Pete Lhamon, his wife Casey and
their children Tristan and Adrienne. You can find Pete totally engaged in the intense activity of Breakout each Wednesday.
He will be hands-on in every ministry involving children from nursery school through 6 th grade, developing and
nurturing programs that minister to the spiritual growth and needs of the children. As part of the new Family Ministry
Team with Robin Dahl, Youth Director and Jon Weems, Associate Pastor, Pete shares the vision to reach out to families
in the church and in the community to develop Christ-centered relationships.
Growing up in the Catholic Church, Pete was leaning toward priesthood. Although called to ministry early in life,
he chose his own path for years using his construction trades education to develop and operate his own construction
business. He believes the Lord was at work during this period of time developing his leadership skills to ultimately do
work for the Kingdom.
He received a clear, unmistakable call from God about six years ago as he was at his workbench one day and it was then
that Pete submitted to Christ and responded by giving his life over to the will of God. He began pursuing a Bachelor’s
Degree in Leadership and Ministry, intending to become a pastor. Recognizing Pete’s gift for connecting with children,
his professor encouraged him to take a leap of faith to lead a children’s church ministry. It was then that he found his
passion to mentor, encourage and grow children in their relationship with Christ. That same passion has taken Pete,
Casey and their own children on mission trips to work at an orphanage in Chihuahua, Mexico.
And now Pete and his family have taken another huge leap of faith to follow God’s call bringing them from Michigan to
Marble Falls, Texas, to minister to our sweet children and their families here at First United Methodist Church.
In their “spare time,” Pete looks forward to bow hunting, fishing and taking up hunting feral hogs while Casey will
continue her mission trips to Mexico. Together with their children, they plan to explore, sight-see, and leave no rock
unturned as they acquaint themselves with their new home state.
Welcome Pete! We are excited to have you, Casey, Tristan and Adrienne in our church family.

Throughout the world - from the steeples of churches, from the tops of mountains, rising from the hills and plains, in
homes and personal treasures, the cross stands as the unique reminder of Jesus the Crucified, Risen Savior.
Regardless of what we face in this life if we look ahead we know that at the end of our journey, There Stands a Cross.
Why We Cry
We cry because we’re sad about a young life taken…
tearing holes in many hearts.
We cry because we’re angry about her violent death
and the killer roaming free.
We cry because we’re touched by every card, every call,
every hug and every prayer.
When the tears fall, we may be sad or angry or touched
or maybe all three at once.
TEXAS MISSION OF MERCY (TMOM)
On Saturday, February 9, 2013, a Texas Mission of Mercy
Dental event was held for Burnet County at Burnet High
School. Twenty dental chairs were staffed by volunteer
dentists who came from all over Texas to provide care for
the underserved people of our county. The event was a
huge success. $170,000 worth of dentistry was provided for
241 patients. It was truly a Texas size effort by our communities
to fund raise, plan and execute this amazing event.
Thank you to everyone from FUMC who contributed to the
success of the event by donating financially or by giving of
your time and talents. Thanks to Russ McNeill for organizing
a team for the golf tournament done as a fund raiser in January.
We had to raise $15,000 for the TMOM event and the
golf tournament raised a huge chunk of that. Thank you also
to Jeanette Pickard and the FUMC Missions Committee for
providing and serving lunch for all of the volunteers. The hot
soup was so good on that cold, nasty February day. You
were truly the hands and feet of Christ!! If you'd like to
