From the Pastor’s Heart….
Today’s Message
As we move from January into February of our “Year of Gratitude,” I’m wondering, how you’re doing?
Specifically, how are you doing as you make intentional efforts to express your gratitude and thankfulness to
significant persons in your life? At the beginning of the year I encouraged you to take a moment each day and
jot a note to someone who has made an impact on your life. You can mail a card! You can send an email, a text
or a Facebook message! You might even give them a call! The manner of communication does not matter.
What matters is that you thank them. Let them know that they have made a difference in your life. So I ask,
how’s that going in your daily routine?
I am sending a message of some kind each day to someone in my life. I confess, I’ve missed a day here
and there but I am developing a habit of making an intentional effort to thank someone each day. I’m finding
that it’s already giving me a new perspective on life. If I have to take that time to send that message every day,
then I have to stop and consider how I’ve been blessed. And I’ve been humbled in the process. I knew before
that our God is awesome, but this has made me notice the blessings of each new day. I hope it has been a good
experience for you as well.
This week I am particularly thankful to see how the greater Marble Falls community has exemplified the
Body of Christ that Paul speaks of in 1 Corinthians 12. In the wake of the tragedy that took the life of young
Mylie Ferguson, I’ve seen churches join together and educators coordinate efforts of compassion for all MFISD
students. I’ve seen this community reach out to the other youth who were involved in that horrific accident,
offering comfort and support. And most of all, the power of God’s Holy Spirit has been powerfully evident.
For what are you thankful this day? Very soon, we will have “thank you” cards available at the
Welcome Desk for anyone who wishes to pick them up. Hopefully these tools will be visual reminders that you
can use to share your gratitude. I’m eager to hear how this changes your perspective. I’m eager to hear how you
become more aware of God’s blessings this year. And I’m particularly eager to hear stories of how you’ve been
blessed in the process. Thanks be to God!
Blessings,
Ellen
Dear Church Family at FUMC,
I just want to thank you for the party, the cards, the Christmas
bonus, and all of the love you have expressed to me during
these past few years. This is a big change for me, and it will be a
while until I am fully settled in. There is a lot to do at this new little
church...but I’m seeing the power of God work! Please be in prayer
for us!
I just hope you all know how much I love and appreciate
each of you for what you’ve done for me and my family during some
very trying years but, more than that, what you continue to do for
others by showing the love of Christ day to day. You are an awesome
Body of Christ! Keep spreading the Word and do not get discouraged
when the going gets tough.
If anyone is ever in Kingsland, please come by Packsaddle
Fellowship and say hi! My new email is robinkaspar59@gmail.com.
I would love to hear from you!
The land Lakes Family Crisis Center recently
recognized volunteer Sara Reily. When Sara
was looking for different places to fulfill her
internship requirements for her Bachelor’s
degree in Psychology and Christian Counseling,
the HLFCC was the perfect fit.
“I want to support and encourage people who
are going through difficult times and help them
find their way,” said Sara. During her internship, Sara has helped
teach elementary students about healthy relationships, and is currently
answering and responding to calls on the crisis hotline, and
assisting clients as they come in for services.
One of her goals is to make a difference in people’s lives. Volunteering
at the Crisis Center is important to Sara and being a working
mother, she says she finds time to volunteer by prioritizing. In her
spare time, Sara likes to spend time with her family, play tennis,
and is very active in her church.
presented by the Missions Committee,
will be held on February 16 at
6:00 PM in the Breakout Room.
Proceeds will go to support our
church’s missionary families: Ray and Lidia Zirkel in
Costa Rica, Kevin and Jessica Langford in East Asia, and
George and Ginny Olsen in the Philippines. They do
amazing work bringing people to Christ and providing
education for children and adults. These missionaries
come from our own church family so we want to show
them our love and support any way we can. They do the
work for those of us who can’t or don’t feel called to go
out of the country. You may make reservations by signing
up in the church office or at the Welcome Desk, or by
calling the church office. Cost is whatever donation you
feel led to make. Please join us for a delicious dinner and
an evening of fun and fellowship!
16-week study beginning February 6
7 to 8 pm
The suffering caused by a marriage or long-term relationship being
severed is intense and beyond description. Maybe you are trying
to find a way to ease the pain, to pour out your heart to God and
feel He isn't responding, or perhaps you are angry with God, or
angry with the spouse or ex-spouse and you're finding it difficult
to cope. Divorce recovery is a process requiring information, organization,
and change. Change means accepting what has happened
and making the lifestyle adjustments necessary to
cope. This is not an easy process but, with Christ's help, it is possible.
In the 16-week sessions, our discussions will center on the
forgiveness, healing, and growth that comes from building a relationship
with Jesus, our hope and our Redeemer. Please join us
Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm starting February 6th. Childcare
will be provided upon request. A sign-up sheet is at the Welcome
Desk.
Feed My Sheep...
Looking for a place to serve your
church? We need volunteers to prepare
home-cooked casseroles for
members who are ill, bereaved families, or people who just
walk in needing a hot meal. The Feed My Sheep freezer is
stocked with meals prepared by church members and packed in
foil containers that can be reheated (8x8 or 9x9 foil pans work
great). Wrap tightly with foil and label with Feed My Sheep,
add contents, date prepared and heating directions. Bring it to
church and place in the FMS freezer located in Fellowship Hall.
This is an easy way to help serve others. When you are cooking
for your family, just double the recipe and package a portion to
share.
Please call Wendy Bingham with any questions at 830-613-9624
FUMC Marble Falls, along with other local churches, has
been requested to provide volunteer support for the Texas
Mission of Mercy (TMOM) when they provide free dental
services for those who need it in Burnet County. They need
this support in Burnet on Friday, February 8 and Saturday,
February 9.
If you would like to know more about
this opportunity to serve, please visit
their web-site at www.tdasf.org and
follow the prompts to the one day event
for Burnet, then to the volunteer page
and then to community volunteer. Fill
out the volunteer page as instructed and
make sure you submit it. They have
requested that any prospective volunteers follow this procedure
as they do not have the staff to take a telephone request.
Twenty dentists from all over the state of Texas, along with
many dental hygienists, are volunteering their time free of
charge to help the folks of our county who need this dental
care. They also need over 50 community volunteers to assist
in this effort. If you have some time on one of these days,
please consider helping this worthy cause. The FUMC Missions
Committee will be furnishing lunch for the dentists and
volunteers on Saturday.
The pictorial directory committee is asking for
volunteers to help bring about a new church
directory. The first meeting will be in mid January
with pictures scheduled to be taken in April.
