To My Church Family,
Thank you for helping me through the long
illness and death of David. It was your prayers,
calls, visits, cards, food, and love that gave me the
courage and strength to get through it.
The beautiful sympathy cards lined my dining
room table. I loved every on of them. What a
solace.
Thank you for your many donations in his
memory. May God bless you.
Love, Betty Walker, Vidal,
and family
Dear Ones,
Thank you so much for all your kindness and gracious
thoughtfulness with J. C. He loved you! Our
kindred spirits can so relate! “Thank God from
whom all blessings flow.”
Love, The Donna Matlock Family
Dearest Church Family,
“Words cannot express…” Over the past few weeks, this
phrase has taken on new meaning for me. It is extremely
difficult to express in words what is felt in the heart but I
will try. My heart is filled with gratitude for your many,
many acts of love and kindness. You brightened the long
days with your special hospital visits. Your overwhelmingly
abundant supply of cards and notes of encouragement
have been amazing and are prominently displayed in
my living room. Your home visits and frequent telephone
calls of concern are most reassuring. The meals you lovingly
prepare and so generously share are delicious. But,
most importantly, I am deeply thankful for your compassionate
prayers of guidance for the physicians who are
treating me, and for my comfort and healing. You are an
awesome group of Christian friends who have a very special
place in my heart. I treasure each of you, and I thank
God daily for the blessings of your friendship. Mitzie Pyle
Dear Church, I want to thank everyone that has helped
make the 4th Saturday Meal such a success this year We
have gone from preparing 225 to 260; serving over 2600
meals this year!!!!!!This could not have been so successful
without EVERYONE that helped. The dedicated cake bakers
have prepared delicious cakes that look & smell great.
It has been such a blessing to work with the cooking people,
the servers, and the delivery people; it is such a joy to be
able to serve with each of you. I am blessed to be able to
be a part of this great mission project and to be a part of
such an awesome church family! We are going to take a
rest for the months of November and December as I am
told that the families of the people we serve take care of
them for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I look forward to
seeing everyone again in January when we will start up. I
really do appreciate all the help and patience! God is
good....all the time. God is good! Blessing, Penny Mills
You’ve probably read or heard about Grow-One Sunday
coming up Sunday, November 20. We are asking that you
consider raising your giving by 1 percent of your income
(GROW TOWARD TITHING) or that you GROW A STEP
in a dollar amount of your own choosing.
When we Grow-One, how will our church use the money?
• Staffing to meet the needs of our youth,
the elderly, and every congregation family;
• Christian Education to maintain and improve our
teaching materials and to offer new and expanded
programs;
• Missions to meet our pledge to make disciples;
• Property and maintenance to keep our property
in an appropriate state of repair and/or to purchase
equipment (these are a few of our needs).
Our church budget process begins with our income. We can
only budget our expenses after we determine our income for
the coming year. Please pray with your family to determine
your giving growth. We need EVERY MEMBER on the
team! Let’s all GROW (at least ONE) together.
Blessings,
From the Pastor’s Heart….
Today’s Message
I had just graduated from college with a business degree and was working full time. My grandmother was beginning
to have some difficulties with her day-to-day living. We were approaching that difficult time of seeking assistance for
her and she was very reluctant. In her mind, all was well; all except one thing. She realized that it had become more difficult
for her to take care of her business. One day she finally asked me if I could help her take care of paying her bills and
tending to her business affairs. I was so honored that she would let me help her in that way. We were always very close
and I learned much from her guidance and love.
The first day I went to help her, we sat down at her breakfast table (which is now located in the parsonage) and she
always began the conversation the same way. It went something like this: “Now honey this is private and I want to be sure
you remember that I don’t talk about my business with anyone other than you.” I smile as I write this, remembering those
words. Followed by that consistent beginning to our conversation were always words something like this: “When I get my
monthly Social Security and pension checks, the first thing I want to do is write my check for the church. God calls us to
tithe 10% of what we receive and I’m gonna be faithful to that.” So when we opened the checkbook, the first check we
wrote was always payable to her church. It was not a huge amount but it came from her huge heart and it was a tithe of
God’s blessings in her life. I will never forget that.
Today, just over twenty years since her death in 1991, from that experience I remember two lessons that were imprinted
in my brain. First, the life we live is a witness to those around us. It can be a positive, sweet witness that we recall
for the rest of our lives. It can be a witness to the love and grace of God that my Grandmother lived for me to see. Or – it
can be a negative witness that becomes a shadow of our past that we wish to forget. Second, God calls us to be faithful to
his call to give back a tithe of the blessings he pours upon us. It was a lesson from my Grandmother, but it was so much
more. It is a Biblical standard. When we stop to think of the mighty ways God has blessed us (monetarily and otherwise),
how can we do any less?
November is the month in the church when we address financial stewardship and so we’ll be talking more about
this. Don’t avoid worship because you don’t want to hear talk about money! If you’re gone, you’ll miss something special
and we will not be complete without you! Make a point to be present in worship so together, we can celebrate God’s goodness
in our lives and look forward to all that God has in store for us! I hope to see you each Sunday as we claim the promise
of God’s provision for us in all of life. Thanks be to God!
Blessings
Volunteers Needed to Decorate the Church
Please put November 20th, 2-4 PM on your schedules to help us decorate
the church inside and out. We need lots of helping hands to go up
on ladders to hang garland and wreaths. Many helpers are needed to
hang ornaments on the angel and crimson trees. The more the merrier—see
you on the 20th!
Operation Christmas
Pack your shoe box and
return it to the church by
November 13th
Share God’s love and the joy of Christmas by
packing a gift-filled shoe box for a hurting child
overseas. Your simple gift can make an eternal
difference.
Mark your calendars to turn your
clocks back on
Saturday, November 5.
Daylight Savings Time Ends.

St. Frederick’s requests help with the
following items for their community
Thanksgiving meal on November 19th
TURKEYS may be brought any time
November 1st through 12th.
Start bringing on Monday, November 14:
Cornbread Celery Bell Peppers Onions
Please bring pies and cakes on November 18th.
Last but not least your $$$ donations and
volunteer help is welcome all week!
Remember everyone that we are helping St Frederick
Baptist Church with the cakes for Thanksgiving
Dinner just as we have in years past. We will need
LOTS of cakes and pies. They can either be brought
to our church or you can take them to St
Fredericks. That is also the 3rd Saturday and we will
serve and deliver. I am not sure of the total yet but I
am sure it will be close to 1,000 as it was last
year! Again, thank you for your prayers and support
for this Amazing Mission Outreach project!
Dear Church,
We would like to have a memorial
fundraiser for J. C. Matlock’s widow,
Donna. It had been our intention to
have a golf tournament to assist J.
C. with medical bills, etc. Unfortunately, we were
unable to do this because of J. C. ‘s declining health.
If you would like to contribute to the J. C. Matlock
Memorial Fund, please make your checks out to
FUMC.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
FUMC Staff
The Trustees are also asking for wildflower seeds to
plant in J. C. ‘s honor on their workday, November 5.
At that time, they will prepare the ground and plant
any seeds that are given. If you can help with this
effort please bring seeds to the church office.
The Missions BBQ dinner after church
on October 30 will feature brisket, pinto beans
and potato salad with cake for dessert. Donations
are requested. Funds raised will go to a
relatively new ministry, True Vineyard, which is
working in Rwanda to help widows and orphans of the 1994
genocide work toward economic independence. Their current
most pressing need is funds to fence a parcel they are
trying to lease from the government to expand their sheep
herd and increase the supply of high
quality wool. The wool is spun into
yarn and sold for weaving into saleable
products.
Following the meal, there will be a
Knockout Basketball Tournament,
which is a repeat event from a couple of years ago. Entry fee
for the tournament is $5. We hope you will join us for one
or both of these activities.
