Moreover, for a mother who used to visit the part of town near the Fitzwilliam, she did not<br />

visit the museum or other nearby cultural institutions. Thus, this visit took her into new<br />

territory.<br />

Interviewer Do you go out to town very much?<br />

Katie Well, I used to live over that way [unclear] so I used to go<br />

around town and that, but not really to do anything specific, to<br />

be honest.<br />

The interview extracts above offer some preliminary evidence of the potential secondary<br />

benefits of this <strong>outreach</strong> programme in engaging individuals with the cultural offerings in<br />

their community. Moreover, the ethnographic observations indicated other possible impacts,<br />

including self-efficacy for mother and child accomplishing the craft activity task (see Figure<br />

below).<br />
