<strong>Wood</strong>Solutions 20<strong>10</strong> Forum<br />

Local experience has shown the dem<strong>and</strong> for knowledge.<br />

In 20<strong>09</strong>, as part of sponsoring the <strong>Australia</strong>n Timber<br />

Design Awards, FWPA brought UK architect Andrew<br />

Waugh to <strong>Australia</strong>. Andrew designed the world’s tallest<br />

modern wooden residential building – a nine-storey<br />

apartment block in London. He was in great dem<strong>and</strong><br />

as a speaker <strong>and</strong> generated interest in this building<br />

technology, which may hopefully lead to a locally<br />

constructed example.<br />

Internationally, comparable programs to <strong>Wood</strong>. Naturally<br />

Better. such as the North American <strong>Wood</strong>-Works have<br />

incorporated events targeted at the specifi er markets.<br />

This is what will be achieved with <strong>Wood</strong>Solutions<br />

20<strong>10</strong>. A one-day seminar aimed at architects, building<br />

designers <strong>and</strong> engineers, to be held in Brisbane, Sydney<br />

<strong>and</strong> Melbourne in September 20<strong>10</strong>.<br />

The comprehensive program includes local <strong>and</strong><br />

international speakers <strong>and</strong> attendance qualifi es<br />

architects, engineers <strong>and</strong> building designers for<br />

continuing professional development (CPD) points.<br />

Engaging with Professionals Partnership:<br />

<strong>Australia</strong>n Institute of Architects (AIA)<br />

During the year a range of activities were undertaken with<br />

various divisions of the <strong>Australia</strong>n Institute of Architects.<br />

These continuing activities are building a relationship with<br />

the practitioners <strong>and</strong> their peak associations.<br />

Built Environment Meets Parliament (BEMP)<br />

BEMP is the premier annual conversation between<br />

parliamentarians <strong>and</strong> industry leaders that showcases<br />

the relationship between <strong>Australia</strong>n communities <strong>and</strong><br />

their built environment. This was an opportunity to<br />

showcase the <strong>Wood</strong>. Naturally Better. br<strong>and</strong> to an<br />

infl uential audience.<br />

More than 290 attendees<br />

28 presenters <strong>and</strong> facilitators<br />

Three <strong>Australia</strong>n Federal Government Minister<br />

keynote speeches<br />

Sponsorship of the Archicentre Best<br />

Renovation Design Award<br />

Through the <strong>Wood</strong>. Naturally Better. program FWPA<br />

sponsored two design award categories, Renovation <strong>and</strong><br />

New Home.<br />

Archicentre renovation seminars<br />

<strong>Wood</strong>. Naturally Better. both sponsored this program<br />

<strong>and</strong> provided a keynote speaker who gave a presentation<br />

on the attributes of renovating with wood. There were<br />

a total of 30 evening seminars spread across NSW,<br />

Vic, SA, Qld <strong>and</strong> WA, attended by hundreds of people<br />

interested in renovating their homes.
