Andrew Waugh, then partner of the London fi rm,<br />
Waugh Thistleton, had achieved international acclaim by<br />
designing the world’s tallest modern multi-storey timber<br />
building – a nine-storey apartment complex in London.<br />
Sponsoring Andrew’s visit to <strong>Australia</strong> to speak at the<br />
<strong>Australia</strong>n Timber Design Award events <strong>and</strong> become<br />
involved in associated activities was an unparalleled<br />
success. This generated enquiries for information relating<br />
to multi-storey residential <strong>and</strong> commercial buildings from<br />
a range of signifi cant businesses.<br />
Through created events <strong>and</strong> arranged media interviews,<br />
Andrew Waugh featured in 23 separate articles in<br />
coverage that had an estimated media value of more<br />
than $200,000.<br />

In their tenth year, the <strong>Australia</strong>n Timber Design Awards<br />
are the premier recognition of timber design in <strong>Australia</strong><br />
<strong>and</strong> provide a platform for engaging with architects,<br />
engineers <strong>and</strong> building designers.<br />
These awards saw some <strong>10</strong>0 entries in 17 categories <strong>and</strong><br />
continued to promote the use of timbers as a functional,<br />
attractive, cost-effective <strong>and</strong> environmentally rewarding<br />
building material.<br />
For the fi rst time they were structured as regional<br />
presentations with four events: SA & WA, Vic & Tas, NSW<br />
& ACT <strong>and</strong> Qld & NT. The Award winners <strong>and</strong> fi nalists<br />
were featured in a full colour magazine.<br />

Target: consumers<br />
From relatively small beginnings, Sustainable House<br />
Day has grown to become a Government-supported<br />
initiative involving more than 183 houses <strong>Australia</strong>-wide<br />
<strong>and</strong> attracting more than 30,000 visitors <strong>and</strong> extensive<br />
media exposure.<br />
<strong>Wood</strong>. Naturally Better. sponsorship resulted in<br />
people visiting the houses receiving information on the<br />
environmental benefi ts of wood <strong>and</strong> electronic <strong>and</strong><br />
broadcast media exposure.<br />

Target: builders, specifi ers<br />
<strong>Wood</strong>. Naturally Better. sponsored the HIA Apartment<br />
Project of the Year at this well-attended national event.<br />
The category was chosen to help raise awareness of the<br />
potential for using wood in multi-residential structures.<br />
WorldSkills <strong>Australia</strong> National Competition<br />
Target: tradespeople, builders<br />
<strong>Wood</strong>. Naturally Better. was a sponsor of the<br />
WorldSkills <strong>Australia</strong> National competition in which 497<br />
competitors from all around <strong>Australia</strong> tested themselves<br />
in 50 key skills <strong>and</strong> technologies.
