CONSTRUCTION ALERT<br />
CONCERNING IMMINENT CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY<br />
for<br />
Alderman <strong>Road</strong> Residence Halls Phase III<br />
ITEMS OF INTEREST: <strong>Lane</strong> closure <strong>at</strong> MCCORMICK ROAD near the intersection with Edgemont<br />
<strong>Road</strong>, from Friday December 13, 2011 through December 23, 2011. Flagmen will direct traffic around<br />
the construction. The road will not be closed, but please expect delays. All lanes will be open by 6:00pm<br />
every day.
REASON FOR BARRIERS AND CLOSURE: The Alderman <strong>Road</strong> Residence Halls require extensive<br />
underground utility work. This section of the work, which impacts <strong>McCormick</strong> <strong>Road</strong>, was delayed in order to<br />
minimize impact to <strong>McCormick</strong> <strong>Road</strong>. The UVA winter break is an opportune moment to make necessary utility<br />
connections and realignments.<br />
BACKGROUND: Phase III of the Alderman <strong>Road</strong> Residence Halls replacement continues the rejuven<strong>at</strong>ion of this<br />
precinct. Phase III includes Buildings 3 and 4. Phase IV, Building 5, is being constructed concurrently. Future phases will<br />
complete the removal and replacement of the 1960s era dormitories.<br />
INTERIM ROUTES: Flagmen will keep traffic moving through the west bound lane. Pedestrians will be directed<br />
to the west side of the road.
