The MSc in Operations and Business Management is a one year, full-time programme designed
for recent high calibre, non-business graduates who wish to develop competences in
management and operations as a means of broadening their career opportunities.
The programme is designed to prepare students for a wide range of careers. This is through an
intensive and academically challenging learning process, which equips students with the necessary
interpersonal skills, management and business knowledge and operation management experience that
leads to a successful and fulfilling career. The programme is based on the firm understanding that, as
organisations continually seek to improve, the operations management function should be at the forefront of
influencing the market place, as well as generating and informing overall business strategy. The programme
reflects this by including a core set of general management topics, which complement the distinct operations
management theme. Specific focus is placed on Supply Chain management, Planning & Control of
Operations, Continuous Performance Improvement and Project Management.
Throughout the programme, theories and concepts are examined and explained, as well as their
application in real world situations being critically reviewed and analysed, thereby bridging the gap between
theoretical understanding and true appreciation. Such a teaching and learning strategy equips students with
the key knowledge, experience and skills to exploit their full potential in employment situations.
The opportunities that the programme affords successful students are a function of the critical nature of
operations management and its prevalence in the business world. All organisations have an operations
management function although it is not always called such. Past students have gained employment in a
diverse range of organisations from not-for-profit and NGOs to public services and manufacturing, as well as
starting their own businesses.
Entry requirements are normally an Honours degree of a UK university or equivalent or by exception
and by application, the Glasgow Caledonian policy on accreditation of prior learning will be applied.

International students whose first language

demonstrate evidence of satisfactory
competence by completing an IELTS test with
a score of at least 6.0 or by holding another
