PRESS RELEASE
Untergruppenbach/Cologne – 25 September 2012
Getrag completes product portfolio with new dual clutch and hybrid transmissions
At its fifth biennial Drivetrain Forum, Getrag presents two new transmissions: the seven-speed dual
clutch transmission Getrag Powershift 7DCT300 and based on this the Getrag Hybrid Drive 7HDT300.
The transmissions complete the company’s product portfolio to provide total coverage in terms of
torque output and application size.
The transmissions use a new modular approach to development that allows Getrag to maximise
standardisation while matching attributes to different market requirements. The approach has resulted in
quality and economy of scale while reducing development time and program costs. Getrag Chief Technology
Officer Didier Lexa said: “We have developed each module with enough flexibility and breathing space to
make it easily adaptable to the different attributes required by different local markets. Benchmarking the
7DCT300 against CVTs and automatics has made the transmission best-in-class for launch, fuel economy,
NVH, cost and ease of hybridization.”
The 7DCT300 is designed for use in mid-sized and compact vehicles with front-transverse layouts and
maximum torque of 300Nm. It is the first transmission of a modular family of front-wheel-drive automatics
which will be extended to 500 Nm at the high end with the seven speed transmission 7DCT500 and to 150
Nm at the low end with the six speed transmission 6DCT150.
The transmission’s low dry weight of approximately 65kg makes it compatible with future lightweight vehicle
platforms. The gearshift actuation uses electromechanical shift-drum technology, making it possible to add
start/stop functionality without hardware changes.
The 7HDT300 is a hybrid version of the 7DCT300. The transmission offers scalable hybridisation from mild
hybrids to plug-in architectures capable of pure electric driving. Getrag’s modular approach means that the
transmission integrates the same type of high-speed e-motor as for the other hybrid versions of the
company’s planned six-speed 6DCT150 and seven-speed 7DCT500.
Both transmissions have been designed for global markets with a consistent common-part strategy. The very
high application flexibility makes it possible to adapt the transmission quickly and efficiently to customer
requirements by means of minimal and often standardized adjustments. The main functional elements such
as clutch, gearshift, actuators, control unit and synchronization are designed for various applications as
common subsystems.
The Getrag Drivetrain Forum takes place every two years. The event gathers thought leaders from the
company, customers and industry to present and discuss current market and technology developments.
Getrag provided an update on its business strategy and shared details of its plans for future manual, dual
clutch and hybrid transmissions with its guests.
