STRATHAVEN CHORAL SOCIETY Registered Scottish Charity No. SC006127 STRATHAVEN CHORAL SOCIETY was founded in 1972 by the late David Knox and draws its membership from across Lanarkshire and beyond. It is affiliated to Making Music - the National Federation of Music Societies - and strives for a varied repertoire and high standard of performance. It remains committed to the promotion of music. Over the years the choir has performed over a hundred choral works, large and small, by a wide range of composers, from Handel to Vaughan Williams. The repertoire also includes opera, part songs and commissioned pieces. The Society has sung on BBC radio and television and has performed in a variety of venues, mainly in the West of Scotland. In recent years we have hosted visits by choirs from Denmark and Sweden. In each case we were able to make return visits as their guests, to everyone’s musical and social enjoyment. Future exchanges are being considered. Strathaven Choral Society is particularly interested in involving young people in music making and in musical appreciation and has in the past received national recognition for its work with school children and in the community with three consecutive BT/NFMS Innovation Awards. The choir greatly appreciates the dedication and enthusiasm of Musical Director, Christopher Barr and Rehearsal Accompanist, Razvan ˘ Luculescu. We rehearse on Mondays at 7.30pm in the EVANGELICAL CHURCH, Lethame Road, Strathaven, just up Lethame Road from the traffic lights.
