is the least toxic of these<br />

compounds and is more toxic to sarcoma cells<br />

than fibrocytes in rapidly growing cultures.<br />

It is suggested that this property may be<br />

related to the reported effects of this com<br />

pound on oxidation-reduction systems and<br />

as other drugs tested, urethane exhibi<br />

ted a specific toxic effect on the capillaries<br />

as evidenced by pulmonary edema. This com<br />

plication of its administration proved to be<br />

the limiting factor in accomplishing satis<br />

factory treatment. It was not possible to<br />

discover a satisfactory dosage or method of<br />

administration that was adequate to control<br />

the leukemic process without producing pul<br />

monary edema."<br />
