INFORMATION & RULES<br />
Pre-Entries are encouraged. To truly be “pre-register-ed,” all forms must be completed in full. Only one<br />
Exhibitor Entry form for each exhibitor. Entries will be accepted on the day of the show. Please have<br />
entries completed at least 30 minutes before your class is expected to start.<br />
<strong>Show</strong> management reserves the right to reject any entry of any exhibitor or the participation of any agent/<br />
trainer/rider who has shown previous unsportsmanlike conduct at a show or to its management. Exhibitors<br />
are advised that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the officials of this show on the part of the<br />
owner, lessee, trainer, groom, rider, or member of the family of the person participating in the show will<br />
disqualify the horse from being judged. The management reserves the right to remove a horse, owner,<br />
lessee, trainer, groom, rider, or member of the family of the person participating from the show without<br />
being liable for compensation.<br />
The decision of the Judge is final. No one shall approach the Judge with regard to a decision unless<br />
he/she first obtains permission from the <strong>Show</strong> Committee who shall arrange an appointment at a proper<br />
time and place.<br />
Lunchtime will be announced.<br />

Please take note that a thank you card to the sponsor will be included with all show awards. We ask that<br />
the winners of these awards make every effort to show their appreciation by sending these cards to the<br />
sponsors.<br />
High Point and Reserve High Point awards for each age group are for the exhibitor earning the most<br />
points in their age group for the two show series. High Point and Reserve High Point awards will be<br />
announced following the July show. Awards are determined on a one-rider/one-horse basis.<br />
All horses assume a January 1 st birth date, regardless of the actual foaling date. The age of the<br />
participant is as of January 1, <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
Refunds of entry fees will be given for the reason of sick or lame horses (with vet certificate) for preentered<br />
contestants who notify the show secretary 3 days prior to the show.<br />
No mechanical hackamore will be allowed in any class, except gaming events.<br />
Protective leg gear or bandages are prohibited in all classes except reining and gaming events.<br />
The <strong>Show</strong> Committee reserves to itself the right to cancel any class if in its judgment the entries are not<br />
adequate.<br />
If the entries in any two or more classes of the same division are not sufficient to fill them, the <strong>Show</strong><br />
Committee reserves the right to combine the classes into one competition.<br />
The <strong>Show</strong> Committee and <strong>Wallowa</strong> County Fair Board will not be responsible for any accident which<br />
may occur to any rider, groom or attendants, animal, carriage or equipment at the show or in connection<br />
with the show or in connection with the show or in any activities pertaining thereof.<br />
No person will be allowed in the show ring during the time of judging except those having duties to<br />
perform. Exhibitors are notified that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the judges or officials on<br />
the part of the owner, rider, or groom, shall disqualify the horse and the owner shall forfeit his entry and<br />
other fees.<br />
The <strong>Show</strong> Committee reserves to itself the power to prohibit any person from attending or showing a<br />
horse in the show ring and to remove any groom of horse from the show without being liable for<br />
compensation.<br />
Should any questions or disputes arise that are not provided for in the rules, the same shall be referred to<br />
the <strong>Show</strong> Committee whose decisions shall be final.<br />
Dogs are not permitted at the <strong>Wallowa</strong> <strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Horse</strong> <strong>Show</strong>.<br />
Stallions may not be shown by riders or handlers 18 or under.<br />
Gate will close three minutes after the first horse enters the ring. No horse may enter the ring once the<br />
gate is closed. A two-minute gate hold may be obtained by informing the gatekeeper before the first horse<br />
enters the ring.<br />

Exhibitors must appear in the ring properly attired. For English in English clothes with proper tack,<br />
Western in Western clothes with proper Western tack. A correct number needs to be clearly visible. “No<br />
number” will be grounds for disqualification.<br />
Helmet Rule—ALL RIDERS 18 AND UNDER, regardless of riding seat, will wear a properly fitted<br />
equestrian helmet which meets the minimum performance standards imposed by the American Society<br />
of Testing Materials (ASTM) E 1163 and include certification and labeling required by the Safety<br />
Equipment Institute (FEI). Such headgear will be secured with the harness engaged and be properly<br />
fastened when mounted on an equine or in a vehicle being pulled by one or more equine.<br />
No horses allowed near the Food Booth. Do not exercise horses on the lawn areas. Please keep horses off<br />
track in front of the grandstands.<br />
CLASSES DEFINED<br />
<strong>Show</strong>manship—The ideal showmanship performance consists of a poised, confident, neatly attired<br />
exhibitor leading a well groomed and conditioned horse that quickly and efficiently performs the<br />
requested pattern with promptness, smoothness and precision.<br />
Trail—Trail course will be open from 8:30—? (Closing time will be announced) Riders must ride trail<br />
course at the rider’s discretion in the allotted time. To be judged on the performance of the horse over<br />
obstacles with emphasis on manners, response to the rider and attitude. The course will be posted at least<br />
one hour before class starts. Failure to follow the course shall cause disqualification.<br />
In-Hand Trail—This class will be open to weanlings, yearlings, two-year olds and three-year olds that<br />
have never been ridden. Exhibitor will lead horse through trail course. Exhibitors with older horses who<br />
want to lead their horse through are welcome to pay the entry fee and do so, but will not be awarded a<br />
placing. However, there will be no cross entry between in-hand trail classes and any other trail class.<br />
Nervous Novice Rider—This rider is in the first year of showing in any type of riding class. No<br />
professional trainers please.<br />
Green <strong>Horse</strong>— First year of showing anywhere, in any riding class, by anyone (including walk-trot<br />
classes). Exception: 4-H members that are using this horse as their green horse project may show<br />
through 5 years. Snaffles and bosals are allowed on horses 5 years and younger.<br />
Western Pleasure—<strong>Horse</strong>s to be shown at a walk, jog and lope on a reasonably loose rein or light contact<br />
without undue restraint. <strong>Horse</strong>s must work both ways of the ring at all three gaits. At the option of the<br />
judge, horses may be asked to extend the jog, one or both ways of the ring. <strong>Horse</strong>s should back easily and<br />
stand quietly. Snaffles and bosals are allowed on horses 5 years and younger.<br />
Western Equitation—Riders will be judged on seat, hands and ability to control and show the horse.<br />
Patterns will be used and posted near the arena.<br />

Reining—Patterns will be according to AQHA rules. Patterns will be posted the morning of the show.<br />
English Pleasure—<strong>Show</strong>n at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. The judge may ask for<br />
extended gaits. <strong>Horse</strong>s should back easily and stand quietly.<br />
English Equitation—Riders will be judged on seat, hands, ability to control and show the horse. Patterns<br />
will be used and posted at the arena.<br />
