Beuys, Joseph, 1965-1993, undated Physical Description: Scope and Content Note The file contains correspondence and printed matter concerning artistic practice, teaching and political activism of Joseph Beuys, and numerous posters and press clippings. The press clippings, dating from 1968 to 1993, are predomnantly from Rheinische Post and Düsseldorfer Nachrichten, and occasionally from other German press. Besides Alfred Schmela's correspondence with art magazines, museums, and galleries, also present are printed matter and correspondence from political organizations Beuys was associated with, the Freie Internationale Hochschule für Kreativität und Interdisziplinare Forschung, and the Organisation für direkte Demokratie durch Volksabstimmung, including meeting protocols, circular letters, and Alfred Schmela's statement under oath regarding Beuys. Present are letters to Beuys from Marcel Broodthaers, and Werner Schmalenbach at Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen. See also Series VI. for printed matter and press clippings concerning Beuys.
