Platinum and high-melting platinum alloys are melted in induction furnaces (open, or under an inert gas atmosphere<br />

or vacuum), cast into bars and then processed further. Platinum itself melts at 1769°C, and is inseparable from the<br />

history of Heraeus. Using an oxyhydrogen blowpipe in 1856, company founder Wilhelm Carl Heraeus was the first to<br />

obtain the precious material in industrially useful quantities. This groundbreaking pioneering achievement has since<br />

been followed by a stream of countless innovative developments. The material competence of Heraeus has been built<br />

up on more than 160 years of experience and expertise in dealing with high temperatures, and with the extraordinary<br />
