Hybopsis monacha
A. Instream water quality conditions shall not be acutely 1 or chronically 2 toxic except as allowed in
9VAC25-260-20 B (mixing zones). The following are definitions of acute and chronic toxicity conditions:
"Acute toxicity" means an adverse effect that usually occurs shortly after exposure to a pollutant.
Lethality to an organism is the usual measure of acute toxicity. Where death is not easily detected,
immobilization is considered equivalent to death.
"Chronic toxicity" means an adverse effect that is irreversible or progressive or occurs because the
rate of injury is greater than the rate of repair during prolonged exposure to a pollutant. This includes
low level, long-term effects such as reduction in growth or reproduction.
B. The following table is a list of numerical water quality criteria for specific parameters.
