57.03.01<br />
103.1.1 Duties <strong>of</strong> the Chief. It shall be the duty <strong>of</strong> the Chief to enforce the provisions <strong>of</strong> this<br />
article.<br />
103.1.2 Inspections and report <strong>of</strong> findings. <strong>The</strong> Chief shall, upon report <strong>of</strong> any violation <strong>of</strong> this<br />
article, make an inspection and report <strong>of</strong> his findings thereto.<br />
103.1.3 Signing <strong>of</strong> certificates and notices. <strong>The</strong> Chief shall sign all certificates, notices, and<br />
orders pertaining to fire safety and fire hazards.<br />
103.1.4 Enforcement <strong>of</strong> State <strong>Fire</strong> Marshal Rules and Regulations. <strong>The</strong> Chief shall enforce,<br />
within the <strong>City</strong>, the Rules and Regulations that have been formally adopted by the State <strong>Fire</strong><br />
Marshal for the prevention <strong>of</strong> fire, or for the protection <strong>of</strong> life and property against fire or panic.<br />

103.2 Appointment. <strong>The</strong> fire code <strong>of</strong>ficial shall be appointed and removed as provided by city<br />

103.3.1 OFFICE AND DUTIES OF THE FIRE MARSHAL. <strong>The</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> Marshal is<br />
hereby created in the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong>.<br />
103.3.1.1Designation <strong>of</strong>. <strong>The</strong> Chief shall designate a Deputy <strong>Fire</strong> Chief <strong>of</strong> the Department who<br />
shall serve as <strong>Fire</strong> Marshal with the authority to exercise the power and perform the duties <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Fire</strong> Marshal.<br />
103.3.1.2 Control <strong>of</strong> matters. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> Marshal shall, under the direction <strong>of</strong> the Chief, have<br />
control <strong>of</strong> all matters pertaining to the Bureau <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> Prevention and <strong>Public</strong> Safety.<br />
57.03.03<br />
103.3.2 BUREAU OF FIRE PREVENTION AND PUBLIC SAFETY <strong>The</strong> Bureau <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fire</strong><br />
Prevention and <strong>Public</strong> Safety <strong>of</strong> the Department, created by Ordinance No. 34,352 (N.S.,<br />
approved June 19, 1916) is hereby authorized to continue.<br />
103.3.2.1 Shall consist <strong>of</strong>. <strong>The</strong> Bureau <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> Prevention and <strong>Public</strong> Safety shall consist <strong>of</strong> the<br />
following persons:<br />
1. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> Marshal, who shall be the Chief <strong>Fire</strong> Prevention Engineer <strong>of</strong> the Bureau<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> Prevention.<br />
2. Additional <strong>of</strong>ficers, assistants and employees as the <strong>City</strong> Council shall provide.<br />
103.3.2.2 Function. <strong>The</strong> function <strong>of</strong> this Bureau shall be to administer and enforce the fire<br />
prevention and life safety provisions <strong>of</strong> this article and shall include but not be limited to the<br />
following:<br />
1. <strong>The</strong> prevention <strong>of</strong> fires.<br />
2. <strong>The</strong> investigation <strong>of</strong> the cause, origin, and circumstances <strong>of</strong> fire or life safety<br />
hazards.<br />
3. <strong>The</strong> elimination <strong>of</strong> fire and life safety hazards in any building or structure,<br />
including those under construction, any premises, marine vessel, aircraft, vehicle, or the<br />
appurtenances and equipment there<strong>of</strong>.<br />
4. <strong>The</strong> maintenance <strong>of</strong> fire protection equipment and systems<br />
5. <strong>The</strong> regulation <strong>of</strong> storage, use, and handling <strong>of</strong> hazardous materials and<br />
