traffic calming measures; 2) comply with traffic calming measures.<br />

Expanding our Horizons<br />

100. Continue to practice sustainable urban design in transportation<br />

planning. Within the Transportation Plan update process, consider<br />

the following specific features aimed at encouraging and promoting<br />

walking, cycling and use <strong>of</strong> transit:<br />

• intersections that give priority to walking, cycling and transit<br />

• transit routes that are integrated, safe, inviting, direct, fast, easy and<br />

convenient<br />

• improved and enhanced north-south linkages that are safe for<br />

pedestrian, cycling, scooter/wheelchair and vehicle travel<br />

• car-free commercial zones that are inviting to pedestrians<br />

• development <strong>of</strong> sidewalks in high-priority areas that do not have<br />

them (e.g., adjacent to schools, parks, public transit access points<br />

and civic facilities)<br />

• reduced general parking requirements<br />

• non-traditional transportation modes (e.g., gondola up <strong>Burnaby</strong><br />

Mountain, pod monorail 16 )<br />

• charging stations for electric vehicles<br />

• requirements for bike storage.<br />

• Non-pr<strong>of</strong>it agencies, community organizations, general business<br />

community: 1) provide suggestions for infrastructure and areas<br />

that may require consideration regarding the above.<br />
