this is simply due to circun~stances.
And since the latter have been
scaxcely comfortable these last 15
years or so, changes have to be expected.
All the same I am sorry
when a friend gives up the gun.
Manv a busv man. I know. cannot
find "time both to shoot and fish. And.
I suppose, it is easier for a man td
fish than to shoot.
So many of my relations have been
good vith bath rod and gun that I
have erhaps rather taken it for
grante2 that both these great sports
could be follorved at will. I fear,
though, that matters are not so
simple as that today. To follow hot11
sports freely yon need now to be exceptionzilly
fortunate. So, as the nett
result, we find people settling for one
or the other and considering themselves
lucky to be able to do that
much!
In my own circle of relations the
one who is the best shot is also the
best fisherman. He is, I think I call
say, nearly first-class at both these
sports. But as matters are, he has
been lucky. Many of us today never
enjoy sufficient practice at either
sport. So our potentialities are not
developed and nobody can say what
might have been. A lot of skill thus
goes to seed.
