29. Premises of Dairymen.—Every dairyman shall in or upon the premises used by<br />

him for the purpose of his business, provide—<br />

(a)<br />

(b)<br />

(c)<br />

<strong>Milk</strong>ing Shed.—a milking shed or sheds which shall have—<br />

(i) walls of a height measured internally not less than 2,75 m from the<br />

floor to the underside of the wall plate, which walls shall have a<br />

smooth <strong>and</strong> impervious finish of light-coloured material or paint;<br />

(ii) a milking passage not less than 1,5 m in width, provided that in the<br />

case of a double-byre shed a central passage shall be provided with a<br />

minimum width of 2,75 m;<br />

(iii) a solid <strong>and</strong> impervious floor, adequately drained to an outside gulley<br />

which shall be connected to an approved drainage system effective<br />

for the disposal of waste or soil water;<br />

(iv) stanchions <strong>and</strong> other fittings suitably constructed of metal or other<br />

impervious material;<br />

(v) a manure disposal system such that the immediate vicinity <strong>and</strong> the<br />

dairy premises as far as practicable shall be free of flies;<br />

(vi) an area paved with concrete or other approved solid material at the<br />

entrance to, <strong>and</strong> exist from, the shed extending for a minimum<br />

distance of 10 m from the entrance <strong>and</strong> 5 m from the exit <strong>and</strong> of a<br />

width of not less than either that of the shed or a cattle race if<br />

provided;<br />

<strong>Milk</strong> Room.—a milk room which shall—<br />

(i) be dust <strong>and</strong> fly-proof;<br />

(ii) be provided with a ceiling which shall be painted with a lightcoloured<br />

washable paint;<br />

(iii) have walls at least 2,75 m in height measured from the floor to the<br />

ceiling <strong>and</strong> the inside wall surfaces shall have a smooth <strong>and</strong><br />

impervious finish of light-coloured material or paint;<br />

(iv) be equipped with doors which shall be capable of being locked;<br />

(v) have a solid <strong>and</strong> impervious floor adequately drained to an outside<br />

gulley which shall be connected to an approved drainage system<br />

effective for the disposal of waste or soil water;<br />

(vi) be of a minimum floor area of 13,5 m², exclusive of a cold room or<br />

immersion tank;<br />

(vii) be adjacent to the milking shed <strong>and</strong> may communicate directly<br />

therewith provided the interleading opening is fly-screened with a<br />

self-closing door;<br />

(viii) not communicate directly with any dwelling or feed store;<br />

(ix) be used solely for the purposes specified in the definition of the term<br />

“<strong>Milk</strong> Room” in section 1 or for the storing of clean vessels <strong>and</strong><br />

utensils used for such purposes.<br />

No motor, engine or boiler, other than a unit with a built-in electric<br />

motor, shall be installed or used in a milk room.<br />

Wash Room.—a wash room which shall—<br />

(i) comply mutatis mut<strong>and</strong>is with the provisions of subsection (b);<br />

(ii) be of a minimum floor area of 11 m² ; <strong>and</strong><br />

(iii) communicate directly with the milk room;
