‘Everyone Reads!!’
To celebrate Education Week the Junior SRC invited members of our
community to come to school and share a picture book, short story or
poem with the primary students. The students were engrossed by the
range of stories and enjoyed the chance to hear other adults read.
Mrs Walter
Neville Smith delighted children with his book,
“The Gingerbread Man’.

This week is Education Week and we are very proud to announce that we have been
accepted into the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Project for this year. We applied last
year but just missed out, however this year our school has been announced as one of the
successful Victorian schools. We have appointed Mrs Rebecca Sambell for one day a week
to coordinate the programme within the school and she will be keeping the community up
to date about our progress. The Kitchen Garden Project encourages community
involvement and support so stay tuned if you may be interested in becoming involved. This
is great news for the students in our school. The primary students will be able to grow and
cook their own foods and increase their understanding of how food comes into their
homes.
As part of Education week, to celebrate before Grade 5 and 6 headed off on their
camp, all primary students were involved in a family tree photograph and construction
activity on Monday and, on Tuesday, we had selected community members come and read
to our students. Thank you to all of our community volunteers who read one of their
favourite stories to the students –Cam, Julie, Rob, Helen, Bev, Lachlan and a special thanks
to Neville Smith who journeyed to the school a week early to make sure he didn’t miss the
opportunity to show the students that ‘Everybody Reads’.
Grade 5 and 6 have now headed off to Ballarat under the guidance of Ms Buhler, Mrs
Allen and Mr Wearne for their 3 day camp. We wish them an exciting 3 days full to the brim
with activities.
All positions are full for the Bogong Ski camp in term 3. Students can still be put on
a waiting list but their participation will be dependent upon someone cancelling their
booking. As always, costs go up and because we only attend every 3 years, the costs for the
camp are now sitting at $437 including 4 nights accommodation, all ski wear and
equipment hire, all instruction in down hill and cross country skiing and the bus charge
from Goroke to Bogong return. If parents believe they can now not afford the camp, please
contact the school so we can organise emergencies. Also please contact the school if you
would like to pay off the camp over the next couple of months.
Basketball competitions started on Monday night and well done to the primary and
secondary teams competing. The spirit is certainly about keeping fit and having fun and it
is a pleasure umpiring both competitions. Thank you to Grace and Oliver for coaching one
of the junior teams and Lauren for coaching the other. It certainly helps our junior students
improve their performance and also provides excellent role modelling for these young
students.
We have had some queries about uniform and, again, we apologise for the lateness
of some of the items of clothing. Pants have finally arrived but rugby jumpers and polar
fleeces are still delayed. We have contacted the company numerous times and we have
gone so far as to cost alternative suppliers if they cannot improve their service. The
weather has turned cold quickly and an assortment of coats and jackets are being worn to
school. Just a reminder that the green polar fleece is the appropriate jacket for secondary
students. Some students are wearing their Advance tops and, although the school is proud
to have them representing Advance, these should be kept either for weekend wear or for
Advance specific activities. If coats are worn to school, they should be removed once they
are in school.
I like the part when I put out the candles with
the dry ice.
Oliver
On the 10th May the Year 7’s experimented
with solid carbon dioxide (dry ice).
Jack
When we put metal or aluminium on top
of the dry ice or solid carbon dioxide it
made a weird squeaking noise.
Last Tuesday Year 7 did an experiment on dry
ice. We all enjoyed putting different things
into water and dry ice. My favourite part was
when I put a rose into a beaker with
methylated spirits and dry ice. The petals
were very hard and broke easily.
Emily
I enjoyed the part when we froze the flower
petals. It was fun to hold the dry ice with a
glove on my hand.
Stevie
Last week we played with dry ice. The ice was
–78C and I found it very amazing that it didn’t
melt. It just went straight into gas.
