6230 – Monroe County High Accident Location Program<br />

Objective:<br />

To perform a detailed analysis of each location identified as a Priority Investigation Location<br />

(PIL), identifying and evaluating potential countermeasures as well as developing specific<br />

safety recommendations.<br />

(This <strong>Task</strong> is an on-going activity with a portion carried over from the <strong>FY</strong> 2009-<strong>2010</strong> <strong>UPWP</strong> for continuation<br />

in <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2010</strong>-<strong>2011</strong>; specifically, $30,517 of federal funding has been carried over from the <strong>FY</strong> 2009-<strong>2010</strong><br />

<strong>UPWP</strong>.)<br />

Process:<br />

Obtain police accident reports for 20 locations presently identified as PILs, as well as any<br />

other locations identified during the term of the project. Analyze each location through a<br />

field review, collision diagram, and a check for accident patterns (e.g., temporal, directional,<br />

accident type, weather, etc.). Develop and evaluate potential safety countermeasures and<br />

make location-specific recommendations.<br />

Additional studies may be conducted depending on the findings of the field and accident<br />

reviews, such as stop sign or signal warrant, gap studies, delay studies, turning movement<br />

counts, and capacity analyses.<br />
