JOINT FORCES OPERATIONS
& INTERNAL TASK FORCES
In 2009, the Hamilton Police
Service participated in many
Joint Forces Operations and
Internal Task Forces. The
following are highlights of
some of these initiatives:
1.
Project SHUTDOWN
Goal: A multi-jurisdictional
investigation involving municipal
police services in the Golden
Horseshoe, the OPP and Six
Nations Police to identify those
persons responsible for stealing,
dismantling and resale of stolen
vehicles on the Six Nations
Reserve.
Cost:
1 D/Cst. for 8 months
Results: 19 arrests, 138 charges, 294
vehicles recovered, 5 fi rearms
seized, 1 kilo of cocaine seized
and about $70,000 in proceeds
of crime.

Goal: A joint forces initiative to
investigate a rash of bank
robberies throughout the
southwest region of Ontario.

1 arrest, 60 criminal charges,
recovered 1 9mm Browning
handgun.
Project NAME: N/A
Goal: A multi-jurisdictional initiative to
investigate bank robberies in
Halton, Hamilton, Oxford County,
Waterloo, Niagara and Belleville.

1 arrest, 12 criminal charges.
Project NAME: N/A
Goal: A joint forces initiative with OPP
(Peterborough Detachment)
to investigate a stolen vehicle
and a rash of bank robberies in
Waterdown, Toronto and Grimsby
areas.

1 arrest, 4 criminal charges.

Goal: A joint forces initiative with
Waterloo Regional Police to
investigate commercial and
residential entries in the Waterloo
Region.

2 arrests, 27 criminal charges,
recovered numerous items of
stolen property.

Goal: A joint forces initiative with Peel
and York Regional Police to execute
search warrants in Hamilton,
Halton and Peel areas.

1 Det. and 1 D/Cst. for 1 week
4 arrests, 18 criminal charges,
$70,000 worth of poppy seeds
seized and stolen computer parts
recovered.
Project CHIP OFF ONE & TWO
Goal: An Internal Task Force aimed at
reducing criminal activities
(specifi cally robberies and property
crimes) in the Central Hamilton
Area.

1 Det. and 6 D/Cst. for 8 months
92 arrests, 213 drug and criminal
charges, $55,000 of illicit drugs
seized and 23 search warrants
executed.

Goal: A joint forces initiative with Peel
Regional Police to investigate the
theft of heavy equipment from
Toronto, Peel and Halton areas.

Project CHRISTMAS LIST
Goal: An Internal Task Force to arrest
break and enter suspects who
were responsible for a number of
residential break and enters in the
South-town and West-town Sectors
of Division 1.
Cost:
2 D/Cst. for 1 week
Results: 1 arrest, 15 criminal charges and 15
clearances.
Project BIRDIE
Goal: An Internal Task Force with the
cooperation of Alcohol Gaming
Commission of Ontario aimed
at drug traffi cking activities in a
downtown bar.
