Dear Fellow Skyhawks,
I always enjoy walking through the Hammond weight room. The constant influx of student-athletes,
many of whom come on their own, is quite exciting. Often, I see a core group of teammates,
months away from beginning their season, hard at work, preparing under the leadership of their
coaches and our strength and conditioning team. Without fully realizing it, they are learning
the value of hard work, preparation, discipline, and sacrifice. They later go on to excel in-season
because they have counted the cost in the pre-season.
Life-lessons like these are what make our work worthwhile. Seeing young lives transformed for the
better gives so much more value to the respective sports they have chosen. And seeing coaches
committed to this end makes us proud to be at Hammond.
As you thumb through the pages of this athletic program, we trust that it gives you a good
overview of what Hammond Athletics are all about. With an athletic season well underway, and
with multiple state and region championships already behind us, we continue to look to the future.
elcome from the Athletic Director
As we do, we want to thank you for your support of our Hammond Athletics. Whether you
purchased an ad in this year’s fantastic athletic program, joined the Skyhawk Club, or simply offer
heartfelt support to our athletes on the field, we truly do value your support. We would urge you to
continue to join us in emphasizing what matters most to our young athletes. While we strive to win
every contest in which we participate, we must not lose sight of the aforementioned life-lessons
that athletics can teach us.
That’s what our athletic mission, “Winning Forever,” is all about. We want our victories to not only
come via the scoreboard, but in personal and corporate growth for each of our athletes. This
ensures that our “victories” are victories in the truest sense of the word.
So stand together with us this year and celebrate. Cheer when we win. But cheer also when we
lose—the right way. For if we are truly living out our mission, even when we lose, we will be
winning....forever.
Gratefully,
Andy Edgren
Director of Athletics
