Community Involvement Hatch partnered with Methanex to deliver National Children's Day, an event for children affected by the earthquake and tsunami that hit Chile in February 2010. Hatch is committed to social and economic development and improvement of the quality of life of our workforce, their families and the communities in which we work. Haiti Disaster Relief The January 2010 Haiti earthquake was of a magnitude seven with an epicentre near the town of Leogane, approximately 25 km west of Port-au-Prince. The earthquake caused extensive damage, killed an estimated 230,000 people, injured approximately 300,000 and resulted in 1,000,000 homeless. An estimated 250,000 residences and 30,000 commercial buildings collapsed or were severely damaged. Following the earthquake, Hatch donated money and mobilized volunteer staff to assist with the damage assessment at two hospitals in Portau-Prince, under the management of the St Joseph’s Health System (SJHS). The objective of the field visit was to provide engineering services and a preliminary damage assessment and observation for the La Paix (Peace) Hospital and the Children Hospital. A damage assessment report was produced and used by the Haitian Ministry of Health and other engineering organizations in order to commission demolition works of severely damaged structures and the rehabilitation of other assets, which were still semi-functional. Chile Earthquake Relief A magnitude 8.8 earthquake occurred off the coast of the Maule Region of Chile on February 27, 2010. There were 521 deaths and many more seriously injured. There was catastrophic damage to infrastructure, destroying bridges, highways, apartment buildings, business and homes. The region also suffered a tsunami following the earthquake. Hatch personnel from around the world have come together to work on the development of a Master Plan for the reconstruction of the local communities of Iloca, Duao, and La Pesca, Architect's representation of the proposed future Civic Centre in the municipality of Licantén, Chile all of which were significantly affected by the tsunami. This work is being done in coordination with Universidad Mayor, the Chilean Ministry of Housing and the region of Licantén. The Master Plan will define the new urban image of Iloca, Duao and La Pesca, and integrate its urban structure and infrastructure to include necessary mitigation works to protect the homes 35
