Overview<br />

This report considers the service(s) provided to four men who attended the <strong>New</strong><br />

<strong>Zeal<strong>and</strong></strong> Men’s <strong>Clinic</strong> (the <strong>Clinic</strong>) <strong>and</strong> were seen by the <strong>Clinic</strong>’s sole medical<br />

practitioner, <strong>Dr</strong> E. The <strong>Clinic</strong> specialises in the treatment of erectile dysfunction,<br />

premature ejaculation, <strong>and</strong> related complaints. The four men complained about the<br />

service provided by <strong>Dr</strong> E <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Clinic</strong>. This investigation has reviewed the st<strong>and</strong>ard<br />

of assessment <strong>and</strong> clinical examination performed.<br />

The four cases have been reported together because of the similarity of the issues<br />

raised.<br />

Between 28 February <strong>and</strong> 19 June 2008, the <strong>Health</strong> <strong>and</strong> Disability Commissioner<br />

(HDC) received four complaints about the services provided by <strong>Dr</strong> E of the <strong>New</strong><br />

<strong>Zeal<strong>and</strong></strong> Men’s <strong>Clinic</strong> (the <strong>Clinic</strong>). The formal issues identified for investigation are<br />

set out in Appendix 1.<br />

Information was obtained from Mr A, Mr B, Mr C, Mr D, <strong>Dr</strong> E, <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Clinic</strong>. Expert<br />

advice was obtained from general practitioner <strong>Dr</strong> Stuart Tiller, <strong>and</strong> is set out in<br />

Appendices 2 to 5.<br />

Information gathered during investigation<br />

<strong>New</strong> <strong>Zeal<strong>and</strong></strong> Men’s <strong>Clinic</strong><br />

The <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zeal<strong>and</strong></strong> Men’s <strong>Clinic</strong> (the <strong>Clinic</strong>), which advertises widely throughout <strong>New</strong><br />

<strong>Zeal<strong>and</strong></strong>, states in its publicity material that it has “the most experienced staff in the<br />

country for erectile dysfunction (ED), premature ejaculation (PE), low sex drive, <strong>and</strong><br />

performance anxiety related to these”. It states that it provides the “broadest range of<br />

assigned in alphabetical order <strong>and</strong> bear no relationship to the person’s actual name.
