[Dr E] has advised that some patients ‘will give me a clear impression that they do
not want to get into discussion about risks and so forth. This involves something
of a clinical judgement at the time’. It is my view that where a doctor is aware that
a recommended course of treatment will be expensive, that some information in
that regard should be provided by the prescribing doctor. [Mr D] has indicated that
the doctor did not warn him of the expense to be incurred. [Dr E], however, has
indicated that he ‘explained the cost for the treatment of intracavernosal injections,
and that ‘[Mr D] appeared happy to proceed with the treatment’.”
