The HEF was selected by Altrusa International, Inc. of Capital City of Virginia,
a community service organization, to receive a $1,500 gift that was distributed
between four elementary schools: Cool Spring, Laurel Meadow, Mechanicsville
and Rural Point. The funds were used to purchase materials related to Native
American awareness. Dawn Turtle Song Washington, a 6th grader at Cool Spring
Elementary School, produced and presented a documentary on the life of
Pocahontas. Her mother, Leata Two Feathers Washington visited the classroom in
traditional Native American dress.
