不 知 不 覺 間 , 您 發 覺 自 己 無 法 閱 讀 餐 牌 、 看 雜 誌 或 看 準
鬧 鐘 的 指 針 。 這 是 不 少 人 的 經 驗 。 當 您 邁 入 中 年 , 視 力
就 會 隨 著 年 紀 不 斷 減 退 。
視 力 為 何 隨 年 齡 減 退 ?
當 踏 入 四 十 歲 , 眼 睛 就 會 逐 漸 失 去 迅 速 聚 焦 看 近 物 的 能
力 。 原 因 有 下 列 兩 種 :
‧ 遠 視 : 眼 球 過 短 影 響 眼 睛 聚 焦 光 線 的 能 力 。 年 輕 的
眼 睛 能 調 節 眼 球 把 光 線 聚 焦 在 視 網 膜 上 , 但 四 十 歲
後 , 調 節 能 力 逐 漸 減 退 , 令 眼 睛 因 無 法 調 節 而 導 致
視 力 模 糊 。
‧ 老 花 : 隨 著 年 齡 增 長 , 由 於 晶 體 老 化 , 喪 失 彈 性 ,
令 眼 睛 無 法 調 節 把 光 線 聚 焦 。 任 何 年 逾 四 十 五 歲 之
人 士 最 終 均 會 有 此 現 象 。
手 術 的 原 理 是 怎 樣 的 ?
傳 導 性 角 膜 成 形 術 改 變 角 膜 弧 度 , 從 而 改 變 眼 睛 的 聚 焦
能 力 。 傳 導 性 角 膜 成 形 術 利 用 射 頻 能 量 , 令 角 膜 周 邊 組
織 加 熱 和 收 縮 , 令 角 膜 弧 度 增 加 , 就 能 把 光 線 重 新 聚 焦
在 視 網 膜 上 。

如 果 您 年 逾 四 十 歲 , 須 配 戴 老 花 眼 鏡 或 常 因 看 近 物 時 感

全 面 的 眼 科 檢 查 。 醫 生 將 按 照 您 的 情 況 決 定 合 適 的 治 療
方 案 。 如 果 醫 生 診 斷 您 患 上 遠 視 , 應 為 雙 眼 進 行 矯 視 手
術 , 以 重 獲 清 晰 視 力 。

傳 導 性 角 膜 成 形 術 是 一 種 治 療 遠 視 的 矯 視 手 術 , 減 少 對
老 花 眼 鏡 的 倚 賴 , 讓 您 重 拾 十 年 前 的 清 晰 視 力 。 這 項 嶄
新 的 矯 視 技 術 , 採 用 射 頻 能 量 來 矯 正 視 力 , 毋 須 使 用 激

手 術 的 過 程 是 怎 樣 的 ?
如 醫 生 認 為 您 適 合 接 受 傳 導 性 角 膜 成 形 術 , 便 會 為 您 的
眼 睛 進 行 掃 描 , 量 度 每 隻 眼 睛 的 角 膜 弧 度 , 並 根 據 這 些
數 據 安 排 手 術 步 驟 和 評 估 結 果 。
手 術 前 必 須 清 理 所 有 眼 部 化 妝 , 並 安 排 有 成 人 陪 同 往 返
診 症 。 手 術 過 程 非 常 簡 單 :
‧ 使 用 局 部 麻 醉 藥 水 滴 在 手 術 眼 晴 上 。
‧ 使 用 染 色 劑 把 治 療 圖 印 在 眼 球 上 。
‧ 利 用 Keratoplast Tip 在 眼 球 的 定 點 施 以 射 頻 能 量 , 令 角
膜 周 邊 組 織 收 縮 。
‧ 手 術 後 為 眼 睛 戴 上 保 護 性 隱 形 眼 鏡 , 以 保 護 傷 口 復
原 。
‧ 使 用 含 抗 生 素 及 抗 炎 眼 藥 水 。
手 術 後 , 您 可 選 擇 戴 上 太 陽 眼 鏡 。 一 般 而 言 , 手 術 後 毋
須 戴 上 護 眼 罩 。 與 一 般 眼 部 手 術 一 樣 , 您 可 能 會 在 最 初
數 天 感 到 不 適 及 對 光 線 敏 感 。
如 果 您 患 上 老 花 , 醫 生 可 能 建 議 您 接 受 「 混 合 視 覺 」
的 治 療 方 案 。 與 「 單 眼 視 覺 」 不 同 的 是 , 混 合 視 覺

Aging and your eyes
It seems to happen overnight. Suddenly, you feel like
you can’t read a menu, scan a magazine or see your
alarm clock. You’re not alone. Millions of mid-aged
people like you are losing their near vision as part of
the natural aging process.
Why near vision loss with age?
When we turn 40, our eyes begin losing their ability
to easily focus on near objects. This can be the result
of two different conditions:
• Farsightedness (hyperopia): when the eyeball is
too short, it changes the way our eyes focus light.
While young eyes are often strong enough to
compensate and focus light on the retina, older
age will cause gradual loss of compensation
ability, which is why it may only be a problem
after 40.
• Presbyopia: With aging, the lens in the eye loses
flexibility. This also causes problems in the way
our eyes focus light. Everybody over age 45 will
eventually suffer from this condition.
A normal eye focuses light directly on the back
surface of the eye (retina) to enable clear vision.
Hyperopic and presbyopic eyes are unable to achieve
this correct focus on near objects and sometimes
objects in the distance as well.
Tired of Reading Glasses?
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) can help restore your
vision, which allows you to see clearly like you could
10 years ago without much dependence on reading
glasses. It’s an exciting new advancement in vision
correction. It uses radiofrequency (RF) energy instead
of a laser to treat your vision problem.

• Convenient and safe - it is a day surgery without
hospitalization and is virtually painless
• Fast and easy - takes only 5 to 10 minutes
How CK works?
CK can change how the eye focuses light by
reshaping the surface of your eye (cornea). To
produce this reshaping, CK uses the pre-test release
of RF energy to heat and shrink corneal tissue. This
steepens the cornea and allows light to properly focus
on the retina again.
What to expect during a CK procedure?
Once your doctor has determined that you are a
candidate for CK, your cornea will be mapped to
determine its current and individual shape. This will
be used to plan the procedure and measure results.
Before the procedure, the only requirements are not
to wear makeup and arrange for transportation to
and from your doctor’s office. The procedure itself is
fast and simple:

Apply numbing (anesthetic) eye drops
Imprint treatment pattern with rinse-away dye
Use Keratoplast Tip to apply RF energy
Place a bandage contact lens on the eye for
protection and healing after the procedure
Apply antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops
After the procedure, you may elect to wear dark
glasses. There is generally no need to wear a patch.
As with other vision procedures, you may experience
some discomfort and light sensitivity for a few days.
Are you a candidate for CK?
If you are over 40 and wearing reading glasses or
suffering from headaches after focusing on near
objects, you may be a candidate for CK. Other
requirements include:

Have a stable glasses or contact lens prescription
for far vision for the last year
Have no health issues affecting your eyes
Have no active eye conditions which may affect
healing
Be in good general health
Take the next step toward freedom
If you meet the above criteria, talk to your
ophthalmologist and get a full eye examination. He
or she will determine your specific vision problem and
treatment plan. If your doctor determines that you
have hyperopia, both eyes will be treated because
both corneas need to be reshaped for clear vision.
If you have presbyopia, your doctor may recommend
blended vision. Unlike monovision (where one eye is
treated for near vision, leaving the untreated eye for
distance vision), blended vision improves your ability
to focus on near objects without significantly affecting
distance vision in the treated eye. This makes it easier
for you to adjust to the two separate images. If you
have not tolerated monovision treatments in the past,
blended vision may be a better choice. Ask your
doctor for more information.
