Mike Parlier
Plant Operations
Mike has been employed by
HCMH for 18 years. During this
time, he has made many friends
both inside and outside of <strong>the</strong>
organization. Mike is always
very pleasant to be around and
his commitment to his job and
this organization is evident from
<strong>the</strong> moment you meet him.
Every year, Mike works <strong>the</strong> hospital golf tournament. Going
above and beyond, his attention to detail and willingness to
do whatever is necessary is one of <strong>the</strong> things that makes it a
success. Among his responsibilities, Mike works on signage
for <strong>the</strong> tournament.
Mike was instrumental in making <strong>the</strong> Hugh Chatham Idol/
Variety show happen. He not only secured <strong>the</strong> venue, but
was responsible for lights, sound, and advertising as well as
working <strong>the</strong> day of <strong>the</strong> show. The event raised $1,500 to be
used for nursing scholarships.
Mike considers his customer’s time as valuable. Mike was
asked about changing <strong>the</strong> table in <strong>the</strong> medical staff lounge
because of years of wear and appearance, which was a
routine request. Mike treated <strong>the</strong> request with a sense of
urgency to get <strong>the</strong> job done. Within a week, a new top was
placed on <strong>the</strong> table matching <strong>the</strong> room décor with an easily
cleanable surface that looks great.
Mike’s actions have recently impacted a patient’s care directly.
A currier was delivering special instrumentation to <strong>the</strong>
operating room for an orthopedic case and had a flat tire
leaving him stranded. Mike stopped what he was doing when
he learned of this to go help <strong>the</strong> currier. After he changed <strong>the</strong>
tire, he drove back to <strong>the</strong> hospital and assisted staff by carrying
<strong>the</strong> instruments to sterile supply to be processed. Without his
action, <strong>the</strong> patient’s surgery could have been delayed.
Besides working at HCMH, Mike is on <strong>the</strong> city council in
Sparta, NC. He also served as a volunteer fire fighter for
many years until he retired from <strong>the</strong> Dept. Mike has two
sons and three grand kids that also keep him busy at home.
It is employees like Mike that makes HCMH so successful
in <strong>the</strong> health care field.

Josh Stanley
Respiratory Tech
Josh Stanley has been a
Respiratory Tech at Hugh
Chatham for <strong>the</strong> past year. In
this short period, he has
demonstrated an extremely high
work ethic, dedication to his
patients, and is a role model for
<strong>the</strong> standards of performance.
Josh’s manager and co-workers
agree he delivers exceptional quality care to every patient. He
is described as a person who never complains and is always
willing to roll up his sleeves to get <strong>the</strong> job done. If Josh
discovers <strong>the</strong> next shift is shorthanded, he has been known to
complete <strong>the</strong> rounds for that shift so <strong>the</strong>y don’t start <strong>the</strong> day
behind schedule.
Many nurses have expressed <strong>the</strong>ir appreciation for Josh. On
one occasion, a patient pulled out <strong>the</strong>ir IV and without
asking, he was <strong>the</strong>re to help clean up. The nursing staff also
expressed <strong>the</strong>ir gratitude for <strong>the</strong> way Josh explains treatments
and <strong>the</strong>rapy to patients. His positive attitude and willingness
to educate properly reduces anxiety and improves clinical
outcomes in our patients.
Josh is attentive to his patient’s needs. He is quick to respond
to emergent situations. In <strong>the</strong> ICU, an adult patient’s
condition was rapidly deteriorating. Josh’s ability to quickly
intubate <strong>the</strong> patient not only impressed <strong>the</strong> physician, but
also left a lifelong impression on <strong>the</strong> patient’s wife.
Recently, Josh was described as being “amazing” during <strong>the</strong>
hospital fire. Josh, along with his co-worker carried 4-5
oxygen tanks up 3 flights of stairs to get oxygen to all <strong>the</strong>
patients. Without action, some patients would have been
delayed in receiving care or could have suffered respiratory
distress. He fur<strong>the</strong>r helped with o<strong>the</strong>r hospital staff to
evacuate patients to a safe place in <strong>the</strong> hospital.
Josh not only displays a compassionate, caring, personality at
work, but also in <strong>the</strong> community. Josh is a skilled plumber
and carpenter, and dedicates his time renovating and
repairing his church. He also extends his skills to family and
friends. Josh is married to Julie, who shares his caring attitude.
They are foster parents and have adopted a son named Paul.
