Whole Genome Sequencing
• As a long term goal of characterizing the spectrum of
diversity among 8 genomes types, D genome
‘Gossypium raimondii’ has been prioritized for
complete sequencing by International Cotton
Community under International Cotton Genome
Initiatives (ICGI).
• Advantages:
– It has the smallest genome (60% of the ‘A’ genome)
– Genome size 880 Mb
– Detailed genetic linkage map is available
– Recently, a physical map of D genome has also been
assembled.
