ICRISAT’s Vision – The improved well-being of the poor of the semi-arid tropics through agricultural research for impact. With this impact we have the determination to substantially contribute to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, specifically those tackling poverty, hunger, gender and health issues. ICRISAT’s Mission – To help the poor of the SAT through science with a human face and partnershipbased research for development to increase agricultural productivity and food security, reduce poverty, and protect the environment in SAT production systems. ICRISAT’s Mandate – To improve the livelihoods of the poor in semi-arid crop-livestock-tree production systems through integrated genetic and natural resource management strategies. ICRISAT will make major food crops more productive, reliable, nutritious, and affordable to the poor; diversify utilization options for staple food crops; develop tools and techniques to manage risk and utilize the natural resource base of SAT production systems in a more sustained fashion; develop options to diversify income generation; and strengthen delivery systems to key clients. Partnership-based research for impact, gender sensitivity, capacity building and enhanced knowledge and technology flows are integral to this mandate.
