66197 running light engine from Eastleigh followed the charter from Fratton attaching to the rear of the
train at Portsmouth Harbour. Running as 5Z34, the 66 then took the empty stock and 70000 to Fratton
sidings where. 70000 was serviced and refuelled before being turned as 0Z70 Fratton SS (Stabling
Siding) to Fratton SS running via Portcreek Jnct, Cosham, Fareham, Fareham North Jnct, Fareham,
Cosham, Havant and Portcreek Jnct.
With the return working booked at 16.52 from Portsmouth Harbour, 66197 brought the empty stock
and the turned 70000 into Platform 4 a few minutes after 43030 and 43181 had departed with their
charter back to Hereford. The weather remained unkind, with the departure being under grey skies
with a light drizzle. The dampness caused 70000 to slip as it restarted its load of 10 coaches but what
a terrific sight and sound as it found its footing and stormed its way out of the platform! 66197 was
detached on arrival at the Harbour and followed a few minutes later, light engine to Eastleigh.
