Society Notice Board
Editor’s Comments:
I do hope you all generally approve of a 40 page magazine…unfortunately the cover title banner got a
bit lost in background of trees, looked clearer on screen !! I also hope you like the professional
distribution with the carrier sheet (address sheet). The fun part is filling the 40 pages and as I‘ve
pleaded before, don’t be shy in coming forward with info and photos, it is great to feature more from
you, the members and it is particularly pleasing that a high proportion of new members are so
doing…come on you veterans, you must have something to share ?
With the introduction of the new timetable on 5 th Sep yet more interesting workings are now available.
The new Chiltern Railways mainline service from Marylebone – Birmingham Moor Street has been
strengthened and coaches rebranded (see Revised Liveries). London Midland Trains now has use of
Cl.172 DMUs and the new DLR connection between Canning Town and Stratford International is now
in use. With the opening of the Westfield Shopping Centre, towering over Stratford, Southeastern also
took the opportunity to operate 2 additional services an hour between St Pancras Int. and Ebbsfleet
Int. to test its Olympic plans, hence the appropriate cover photo of a Javelin.
As I write this, the bulk of the country is basking
in a late heat wave and even up here it is quite
warm, allowing the ‘estate’ to be mowed before
I hit the road south again, which is where we
will be when you read this. Those that do, I
hope you are out making the most of it. We plan
to call in on some preserved sites that not been
visited before, so that should add more material
to the increasing stockpile of future articles and
photo spots. Hopefully I can also get up to
London this time as so much has happened in
the last few months that I’ve got withdrawal
symptoms ! Haven’t even seen a Cl.379 yet, let
alone a Cl.172 in any TOC livery.
