as much as possible, or even entirely remove it. Based on such a two-stage searching<br />
process, the balance between the execution <strong>of</strong> workflow instances with temporal<br />
violations <strong>and</strong> those workflow instances without temporal violations can be achieved.<br />
3.5 Simulation Environments<br />
The framework proposed in this thesis is being gradually implemented as system<br />
components in our SwinDeW-C (Swinburne Decentralised Workflow for Cloud)<br />
scientific cloud workflow system [53, 59, 96]. SwinDeW-C is a cloud workflow<br />
system prototype built on SwinCloud, a cloud computing test bed. All the simulation<br />
experiments demonstrated in this thesis are conducted in our SwinCloud<br />
environment. Therefore, to present to the readers a clear picture <strong>of</strong> a scientific cloud<br />
workflow system <strong>and</strong> avoid the redundancy <strong>of</strong> the introduction about simulation<br />
environments in the subsequent chapters, SwinDeW-C <strong>and</strong> SwinCloud are<br />
demonstrated earlier in this section.<br />
The SwinCloud infrastructure <strong>and</strong> SwinDeW-C architecture are depicted in<br />
Figure 3.2 <strong>and</strong> Figure 3.3 respectively.<br />
