system users and administrators can access the cloud resources and manage the applications of SwinDeW-C. The Web portal provides many interfaces to support both system users and administrators for the following tasks. Specifically for system users: browse the existing datasets that reside in different cloud service providers’ data centres; upload their application data to and download the result data from the cloud storage; create and deploy workflows to SwinDeW-C using the modelling tools; monitor workflow execution. For system administrators: coordinate workflow execution by triggering scheduling strategies; manage application data by triggering data placement strategies; handle functional and non-functional violations by triggering workflow exception handling strategies. Some interfaces of the Web portal are shown in Figure 3.4. Figure 3.4 SwinDeW-C Web Portal 3.6 Summary In this chapter, we have presented an overview about our probabilistic temporal 38
framework for cost-effective delivery of high temporal QoS in scientific cloud workflow systems. With a novel probability based temporal consistency model, our comprehensive framework includes three components: temporal constraint setting, temporal consistency monitoring, and temporal violation handling. The steps and strategies for each component have been described briefly while the details will be presented in subsequent three parts of this thesis. We have also introduced the SwinCloud infrastructure and SwinDeW-C cloud workflow prototype which serve as simulation environments for our temporal framework and all its components. 39
