FIRST and ONLY EDITION of this group of 173 letters to and from the physician<br />

Giorgio Baglivi (1668–1707) in Latin, Italian and French, with English summaries. The<br />

originals were acquired in 1908 by Osler, a turn-of-the-century medical practitioner and<br />

book collector who greatly influenced medical education in the English-speaking world.<br />

The book includes extensive scholarly apparatus.<br />

touching 7 letters of text, but not affecting legibility. A few small, light<br />

stains in outer blank margin of title page and following two leaves.<br />

Second or third edition of a very successful history of medicine from the Greeks up<br />

to Cullen and Brown, first published Naples, 1794. At least ten editions of this text were<br />

published between 1794 and 1831.<br />
