be described as statistics <strong>of</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial flows. It is <strong>of</strong> considerable<br />

importance to develop a system for the compilation <strong>of</strong> such statistics,<br />

first <strong>in</strong> relation to the government sector <strong>of</strong> the economy <strong>and</strong><br />

later <strong>in</strong> relation to banks <strong>and</strong> other f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong>in</strong>stitutions. Statistics<br />

<strong>of</strong> this nature would undoubtedly lead to a clearer underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>of</strong> the economic relationships between different sectors <strong>of</strong> the<br />

economy <strong>and</strong> would provide a further valuable basis on which<br />

public adm<strong>in</strong>istrators could base their decisions.<br />

Mr. A. Mulvihill <strong>in</strong> the onerous work <strong>of</strong> compil<strong>in</strong>g the tables <strong>in</strong><br />

Mr. M. O'Reilly <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> F<strong>in</strong>ance went to considerable<br />

trouble <strong>in</strong> clarify<strong>in</strong>g for the author the treatment <strong>of</strong><br />

certa<strong>in</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial transactions <strong>in</strong> the traditional government<br />

accounts <strong>and</strong> he also provided unpublished <strong>in</strong>formation necessary<br />
