Dharmagupta, in prose: then the karikas by Asahga<br />

were commented upon by Vasubandhu in a sastra<br />

which was translated twice into Chinese, viz. Chin kang<br />

pan jo po lo mi ching lun ^^Ijilj^^^l^<br />

and Chin kang pan jo po lo mi ching lun<br />

In Tibet we find a commentary on the Vajracched<br />

i k a which is attributed, in the colophon, to Vasubandhu,<br />

Tohoku Cat., n. 3816: aP'ags pa bcom ldan<br />

adas ma ses rab kyi p'a rol tu p'yin<br />

pa rdo rje gcod pai don bdun gyi<br />

rgya e'er agrel pa, Aryabhagavatiprajnaparamitavajracchedikayah<br />

s a -<br />

pta[pa]darthatika, which, as far as I know, is<br />

missing in N.<br />

Are all these attributions to be accepted? In favour<br />

of the attribution of our metrical treatise to Asanga speaks<br />

the colophon of the manuscript as well as the translation<br />

of the karikas by I Ching and the translation by the<br />

same author of the commentary on it written by Vasubandhu<br />

(Ta. 1513) 1} . The title of this work is in fact<br />

followed by the statement that the karikas were<br />

written by Asanga and the commentary by Vasubandhu.<br />

But the translation of the same sastra by Bodhiruci<br />

(Ta. 1511) does not contain any mention of Asanga and<br />

the treatise is said to be the work of Vasubandhu, without<br />
