<strong>Anhalt</strong> <strong>University</strong> is the largest university <strong>of</strong><br />
its kind in the st<strong>at</strong>e <strong>of</strong> Saxony-<strong>Anhalt</strong> with<br />
more than 6,500 students including more<br />
than 12% foreign students from 45 different<br />
countries. The university is loc<strong>at</strong>ed in<br />
Koethen with further departments in<br />
Bernburg and Dessau. With its 26 firstdegree<br />
programs, nine advanced degree<br />
programs, and four correspondence<br />
programs, including six English language<br />
Master programs and joint intern<strong>at</strong>ional<br />
degree programs, the university <strong>of</strong>fers a<br />
broad educ<strong>at</strong>ional pr<strong>of</strong>ile in technology,<br />
business, planning, and design. In the area<br />
<strong>of</strong> design <strong>Anhalt</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers the<br />
following English language gradu<strong>at</strong>e design<br />
programs in Dessau and Bernburg:<br />
• Master <strong>of</strong> Architecture MArch<br />
• Master <strong>of</strong> Art in Integr<strong>at</strong>ed Design<br />
MAID<br />
• Master <strong>of</strong> Landscape Architecture<br />
MLA<br />
Since its inception, the university has<br />
cooper<strong>at</strong>ed intensely with scientific<br />
institutions in Germany and abroad. In<br />
Bernburg, studies focus on land and<br />
business management in the Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Agriculture, Home Economics, and<br />
Landscape Development (Dept.1) and the<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Architecture Facility<br />
Management and Geoinform<strong>at</strong>ion (Dept. 3).<br />
In Dessau, the original Bauhaus ideas are<br />
continued in the programs in architecture<br />
and design. Studies in Köthen centre on the<br />
classical technical fields in the <strong>Departments</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> Electrical Engineering, Food Technology /<br />
Biotechnology / Environmental Engineering,<br />
Mechanical Engineering /<br />
’Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen’, and Computer<br />
Science.<br />
The Department with the disciplines <strong>of</strong><br />
Agriculture, Home Economics and<br />
Landscape Development is the largest<br />
department <strong>at</strong> <strong>Anhalt</strong> <strong>University</strong> with 34<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essors and approx. 1,300 students.<br />
Landscape architecture with a German<br />
language 4 year BLA program and an<br />
English language 2 year MLA program is a<br />
discipline with high enrolment. By focusing<br />
on the applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> new technologies, the<br />
Landscape Architecture Program has<br />
quickly found recognition since its initi<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
in 1992.<br />
Demonstr<strong>at</strong>ion gardens and historic<br />
collections ideally complement the scientific<br />
environment. Further programs in the<br />
department are two programs in agriculture<br />
(in residence and by correspondence), and<br />
undergradu<strong>at</strong>e programs in N<strong>at</strong>ure<br />
Conservancy and Economics and Nutrition,<br />
as well as Master programs in Landscape<br />
Architecture, Food and Agribusiness and<br />
N<strong>at</strong>ure Conservancy. The areas <strong>of</strong><br />
landscape technology and plant applic<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
have found ideal conditions for the<br />
development <strong>of</strong> experimental construction<br />
sites and plant applic<strong>at</strong>ion test plots during<br />
the last years.<br />
