All of the speakers have substantial
knowledge and expertise in their
chosen topic or subject, and did their
best to impart as much information as
they could during their presentations.
They used anecdotes, clear examples
and simple language to convey their
points of interest to the participants.
The Symposium also featured a brief
panel discussion at the end of the
programme, where a representative
from MOM and CPF took the stage
to answer any queries the audience
had with regards to the Workright
Initiative.
For the uninitiated, Workright is
essentially a programme aimed
to ensure that employees enjoy
their entitled employment rights
under the Employment Act and
that the employers comply to said
Employment Act. Comprised of
mostly employers, some of the
questions elded by the audience
during the panel discussion were on
the accordance of leave to workers,
and how should overtime pay be
calculated for part-time or temporary
staff to maintain compliance with the
Act. Whilst specic and catered to
their own companies’ situation, the
panelists did their utmost to answer
all queries, referring participants to
alternative sources of information
when the need arose.
At the end of the day, the 180
participants of the ASME Business
Symposium 2013 went home with
fresh insights, new perspectives
and relevant knowledge for them to
become more innovative and more
competitive enterprises. The business
climate might be challenging for the
months ahead, but SMEs are also
toughening themselves to brace for
whatever change that may come
their way.
