Diana Warrell
Nominated by Suzi Kerr
Diana Warrell has been a resident of Eltham
for the past 44 years and lives with her
husband Chris. Diana was a teacher at
Catholic Ladies College for 20 years.
Her active involvement with the local
community commenced in the 1980s when
she took on the role of President of the
Research Mothers’ Club. Diana then took on
the role of volunteer and board member with
Love in the Name of Christ – LinC Eltham.
LinC is a network of inter-denominational
churches, working together to share human
and material resources in response to needs
of their local communities. Diana’s role with
LinC includes driving people to medical
appointments, shopping, home/hospital visits
and organising food parcels.
Diana has also been a committee member
and the Secretary of CAVE (Community
and Volunteers of Eltham) for the past 15
years, starting when they were a transitional
housing agency. CAVE is now a not-forprofit
community support organisation,
which assists children, teenagers and
families in need. One of CAVE’s greatest
achievements in which Diana was involved,
was the establishment of the Judith Ireland
Studentship, an award which encourages
children in the local community who are
striving to reach their potential.
Diana is an active member of the Nillumbik
Reconciliation Group, currently holding
the role of Secretary, and is a member of
Reconciliation Eastern Metro. Through
her involvement with these groups, Diana
has played a key role in strengthening
connections and networks with other
community organisations.
In 2008, Diana produced the Battle of Yering
Library Exhibition, a wonderful display of
material relating to the Battle of Yering
mounted at Eltham Library.
Diana is an active member of the St
Margaret’s Eltham Church congregation
where she is a leader with their children’s
group Fishtales. She has produced a
cookery book entitled Food for the Journey.
Diana enjoys producing banners,
newsletters, flyers and stationery for the
various community groups she works with.
She was a volunteer at the Deaf Olympics
when it was held in Melbourne and in her
spare time Diana loves to paint.
