Sixth Sunday of Easter
Yes, today’s Gospel reading (John 5: 1-9) is a strange little story, but one that
may be heard at various different human levels of understanding and poses a
few questions.
1. Why has the man got nobody to get him to the water?
2. Lying there for 38 years seems a little far-fetched?
3. Why can’t the man get to the water on his own?
4. Is there something we are missing?
5. How come that when he is prompted by Jesus, his ailment seems to have
gone away?
6. What is the point of mentioning that it was a Sabbath Day?
Perhaps we can suss out some answers to these questions during the sermon
today? Let’s try!
