Hyderabad Chapter Organized a CEO/HR Round Table On HR Impact: Evaluating HR’s contribution to business success At Hotel Katriya De Royal, Hyderabad on March 19, 2008 at 6-00PM. The Event is followed by dinner and was Sponsored by National HRD Network Overview HR departments and HR Heads are increasingly called upon to contribute to the strategic decision making process and also to develop HR strategies to support global business development (For eg. Manufacturing processes, new product development, cross-border marketing strategies, transfer of technology and human capital) as all organizations are realizing the centrality of people for success of businesses in knowledge economy. At the same time all organizations require effective HR measurement systems to evaluate HR's contribution to the achievement of organizations locally as well as globally. Developing such measures/systems is quite a challenging task and that is why we chose this as the focus of discussion. CEO's and HR Heads from a large number of organizations came and shared their experiences in this interactive forum. CEO panel consisted of Mr. Sudhir Reddy, Chairman and MD of IVRCL Infrastuctures and Projects Ltd, Mr. Sachin Gopal, COO of Agrotech Foods Ltd. HR Panel consisted of Ms. Sheela Reddy, Group Head-HR of Maytas Properties, Mr. Naresh Jhangiani, Head-HR of Satyam BPO and Mr Ravikant Reddy, CGM-HR of NCC Ltd. The panel discussion was moderated by Mr T Muralidharn, Chairman TMI Network. Mr K.R.Pillai, DGM of Union Bank of India, Mumbai and Mr. Abraham, General Manager, Union Bank of India, Hyderabad shared the dais on behalf of the sponsoring organization. About 150 HR professionals attended the meet followed by Cocktails and dinner. The panel discussion was lively. Mr AjayChandra and Mr Naseeruddin Ahmed did lion's share of the work for organizing this mega event. Mr M.Arjunan of Union Bank proposed vote of thanks. Chapter News Krishna Gubbi, Secretary, NHRD, Bangalore AGRA Agra Chapter News See on Page No. 28 BANGALORE International Women’s Day Celebrations Theme: Indian Women: Empowerment and Achievements: Now and Further Ahead March 15, 2008- Taj Residency, Vijay Nagar Hall Prof. Anuradha Mahesh, Jt. Secretary, Bangalore Chapter delivered the Welcome note. Later Dr.Gopal Mahapatra, President, Bangalore Chapter shared his perspective of Women’s Day. He mentioned that women have been always good at multi-tasking. He touched upon the Empowerment triangle and the BIND model. The Keynote address was by Mr. Dileep Ranjekar, Program Chairman & CEO, Azim Premji Foundation. He stated that Women’s Day should not be celebrated as a Flavor of the Month but that the focus on developing women should be sustained over a period of time. He quoted various data on inequalities, which hindered women. He associated development to Psychological, Social and Economic factors. Dileep wanted NHRD to create a framework and a forum for dealing with Women related issues and to celebrate women related successes. There were two Round table discussions. The participants emphasized need for working hard, seizing opportunities, collaboration, risk taking and learning on the job. Also they stated that women have to think about themselves as role models, leaders and mentors and not just as working women. R. Alexander, Committee Member, NHRD gave the concluding remarks while the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Mr.Gopal Chapter. A Networking Lunch followed this. NHRD Bangalore Chapter Monthly Evening Lecture for Feb - 2008 NHRD Bangalore Chapter had organized an evening talk on 28th February 2008 at Hotel Chancery, Bangalore. Ms.Barbara Anderson, a well-known Master Certified International Coach gave a detailed presentation on 'Coaching'. Ms.Barbara spoke on 'the concept - the need - the methodology and the importance of coaching' at personal and professional life of an Executive and the Corporate. It was a learning session for around 100+ members who made it a truly interactive session. Dr.Pallab introduced the speaker and Mr.Gopal Gubbi gave vote of thanks to all the NHRD members. Hon. Dean Professor Madhukar Angur from Alliance Business School, Bangalore spoke on "Talent Hunt and Retention - A Cahllenge ahead ". The speaker underlined the importance of moving from traditional HR Management to market driver perspective. While the traditional management believes in minimizing employee turnover, the need is to influence on who leaves when. Candid assessment of employees into three categories namely Critical Genius (CG), Specific Skills (SS) and Easy to Fill (EF) would help the HR to focus on CG and SS. Retention of employees is possible by adequate compensation, job design, job construction (tailor jobs according to individuals), social ties and location etc. In order to manage high attrition, the speaker suggested other options like outsourcing, focusing on recruitment, cross training workers, simplifying and stratifying jobs. As the speaker widely traveled, he brought out global perspective on the subject. Around 90 people attended the meeting and interacted with the speaker. The Alliance Business School has sponsored the meeting and also facilitated the Network members with dinner. Mr. R Rajaram, Chapter President summed up the meeting. Mr. Sathya M Parsa gave vote of thanks.
