Nav Rally Operation On the day of the event, each competor is provided with a QStarz GPS logger configured for 1 second tracking interval, and competes as normal. At the conclusion of the rally, competors return their loggers to the organizers, who upload the track into Tack Tracker. On uploading, Tack Tracker automacally computes the competors score awarding penalty points for each second early or late through each gate (check point) At the post-rally funcon there is no longer a long wait for results and a replay can be shown on the big screen for entertainment. Aerwards the rally may be published to the Tack tracker Cloud for competors and friends to review online. As well as this, you can generate a report of the rally results for prinng. The report can also be copied and pasted into Excel: Notes Tack Tracker computes all mes to millisecond resoluon and gate mes are interpolated between logged points for accurate scoring. Penalty points are awarded for each full second early or late - fraconal seconds do not contribute to the score. Tack tracker also allows you to configure the fixed penales awarded for missing the start or missing a gate and even change of speed.
I HEARD IT BLOWIN IN THE WIND “From the Start Box”-Saturday 12 th January 2013 A ‘warmish day’ with 10 knot South-Easterly winds greeted the 12 yachts that raggedup for sailing. Warlord & Avaganda were joined by the Naturaliste 27 Adriaca and a new member Greg Simpson aboard Randall 32 yacht Altercaon. The three regular SS22s, Beaujolais, Andalusia & Krista contested their race without their Red Witch counterparts as Shee Rua and Midnight Express fell foul of the ‘easterly’ and struggled to sail out of their pens in me. Kingsley Porter and Dirk Adams matched-up in Div 3 & 4 with Annie Lee II enjoying the incoming sea-breeze to finish first. Peter Robbie was a full 8 minutes ahead of Avaganda, but a good sail by Adriaca saw them take out the Handicap Result in Div 1 & 2. Altercaon was a lile tardy at the start but will get used to our lile part of the world. “From the Start Box”-Saturday 19 th January 2013 A leisurely 5knot SE wind slowly turned Southerly then became the Freo Doctor we know and love. So aer co-opng the Commodore to place the Burnside boys and great start was had by all (except the Commodore). He was 4 minutes behind the Div 1 & 2 fleet start. He was not able to catch Warlord but was only minutes behind at the finish. In the SS22s, Insaable led from start to finish with Andalusia & Krista taking the minor placings. Panache and Tehani tussled for the Div 3 & 4 honours. And the Commodore had given the Red Witch Fleet a verbal prodding with Dale II coming up trumps. Dinghies 20 th January 2013 A warm and sunny morning aracted 19 Lasers overall ( 8 full rigs, 9 radials and 2 x 4.7’s ) racing in light to moderate winds. Ross introduced his elder daughter, Emma, to the club, sailing a Laser 4.7 for the first me that day and admirably staying upright throughout the race ( although a few short cuts were taken ). With light winds there was a very closely packed start but the fleet quickly split between those taking an early port tack and those connuing on the starboard tack of the start. The course coordinators did well to reset the marks for the second lap following a 90 degree wind shi that occurred soon aer the start. The race separated into the usual sub group bales with Mal and Nigel out front followed by a close contest between Travis, John Fussell, Sco and Steve. The next group included new member Evan Schmedje, John van der Peyl, Andrew, Will and John Rasmussen. People I could pace myself against were led by Lloyd then Ross, Gaye, Rob, Wendy, Wal and Carlos. Wal was doing well unl he stalled in a tack and then capsized, one of the hazards of full rig for beginners. Mal was fastest full rig and Sco fastest radial. On handicap Lloyd came third, Rob was second and Carlos had his first win. Unfortunately Carlos could not be there to receive his pennant so I have the envious posion of wring the report. Thanks again to the volunteers for making the race possible and to Viv for bringing a cake to celebrate birthdays for Nigel and Travis and her wedding anniversary with Mal. Congratulaons to all for a great day sailing. Rob Heyes “Offshore with the ComDom”-Saturday 12 th January 2013 Bunbury and Return Ocean Race This is a very challenging race because you have to make a decision to either “stay close to shore chasing an Easterly breeze” or “head out west chasing a sea breeze”. The reason this is so important, is that you get “locked in” by the Bouvard Reef…which stretches down the coast from Mandurah down to Bunbury. So, once you’ve made your bed, you have to lie in it!!! Aer looking at various forecasts, talking to previous winners of the race, reading tea-leaves, tossing a coin and even consulng a “medicine man”, Wild Bull decided to “stay in” because the chances of easterly breezes were greater than southerly breezes. Turns out they were right. What they didn’t bank on, was the strength of the southerly when it came…and how long it came in for. The big boats went west and made huge ground…and used their waterline length to advantage. Wild Bull didn’t disgrace itself…but once the big boats got in front… it was “game over” for the lile boats. Wild Bull is sll the smallest boat out there in the bluewater series…so they are showing that the boys from CYC have guts if nothing else! ☺ End result was 8 th over the line (out of 13 boats), 9 th on IRC, 4 th on YAH. Nothing under 38 foot beat them home…so they are sll punching above their weight. GO WILD BULL!!! CommDom is now recovering from 26hrs:40mins of non-stop racing – with about one hour of sleep during that me. The winning boat was a 48 down-wind flyer (Walk on the Wild Side) who did it in 20hrs:41mins – so the boys weren’t THAT far behind really!!!
