DINGHY REPORT
John Rasmussen reports:
CYC dinghy sailing connues to grow in
popularity. This is reflected in both the number
of boats on the water each Sunday (19 last week)
and the steady stream of new sailors and
potenal sailors. New members are excing for
lots of reasons. The exisng members noce how
in a couple of months they go from capsizing and
struggling to rig the boat correctly to suddenly
picking up handicap pennants and nudging the
back end of the fleet (as I found out myself last
week)! Hopefully the new sailors realise that
with some pracce and advice, sailing is a lot of
fun and not nearly as inmidang as it first looks.
None of this would be possible without the
dedicated band of volunteers we have each
Sunday and support from the different
commiees - many thanks to you all.
With more adult dinghy sailors joining the ranks,
CYC junior dinghy sailing is set to take off later in
the year. The Dinghy, Sail and General
Commiees have given their support for the
Yachng Australia Tackers Programme to start at
CYC. This programme is aimed at introducing
primary school aged children to sailing in a fun
and safe way using Opmist Dinghies. We will be
purchasing 6 new plasc Opmists for the
programme and running courses on a regular
basis in the second half of the year. However, to
make space for these new boats, we must first
get rid of some of the exisng Mirrors (see
below).

can get for rigging and launching boats.
Thank you to all who have offered their help over
the weekend. If any doctors or members
qualified in Senior First Aid are able to spare a
few hours to be on stand-by for any medical
emergencies, your skills would be much
appreciated.
Mirrors for Sale
With several new dinghy member and the
Tackers Programme to start later in the year, we
need to make room in the dinghy shed. The club
currently owns 4 Mirror sailing dinghies we are
looking to sell (2 fibreglass and 2 wooden). If you
know of anyone interested, please let me know.
Asking prices range between $200 and $1000
and we are willing to negoate.
