Temporary LINK Train Shut Down
As construction on the Union Pearson Express is set to begin, the GTAA will be shutting
down the Automated People Mover (LINK Train).
Construction on the Union
Pearson Express, the high-quality
rail service linking Union Station in
downtown Toronto to Terminal 1,
will begin on March 19. Metrolinx
will be building the Union Pearson
Express, which will require the shut
down the Automated People Mover
(APM), or LINK Train, to facilitate the
construction of the Express station at
the Terminal 1 parking garage, which
will last approximately eight months
(from after the March Break until
before the Christmas rush).
During this time, the GTAA
will provide guests and employees
with separate air-conditioned
coach bussing service between the
Value Park Garage, Terminal 1 and
Terminal 3. The current level of
service delivered by the APM will
be maintained by the busses: every
three and a half minutes during peak
times and every seven minutes at offpeak
times.
While the APM is out of service,
an additional car will be added
to each train. When the train is
reopened, there will be room for an
additional 25 passengers on each
train, translating to capacity for
thousands more each day.
The new Union Pearson Express
rail service will launch Toronto
Pearson into the same league as
London, Paris, Hong Kong and Seoul,
and will further position us as North
America’s gateway.
